Summary: Bayside Villa's view is awesome and the location to Castries and Rodney Bay is great. John and Shirley are excellent hosts...John picked us up at the airport which was great and we stopped at a grocery store on our way in which was very helpful and thoughtful. John also made arrangements with a company to bring a rental car to us the following day which eliminated any potential hassles. My daughter and I stayed for one week and felt very comfortable there and throughout our exploring of Saint Lucia. We certainly can recommend this place for anyone who is looking for an affordable place to stay in an area that has a lot to offer nearby.

Summary: The room was very comfortable and clean. Anthony picked a group of us up at the airport and was very pleasant. He made a stop at a beautiful overlook and for groceries. John drove us to a great restaurant the first night so we could have a nice dinner. We were all given local cell phones so we could make arrangements for a taxi or excursions. The description of the room and the location was very accurate and the property was well-maintained. John was very helpful with any questions that I had. I strongly recommend this property for anyone traveling on business or pleasure.

Summary: We stayed in the studio apartment for a week in March 2013 and had a great time. We arranged through John to have Anthony pick us up at the airport. The drive to the apartment was about an hour or so but you don't notice since your checking out the views and talking with Anthony. We made a stop at a Super J (grocery store) on the way there and bought some grocerys. I would recommend the grocery store in Rodney bay for a way better selection. John and Shirely met us at the apartment and made us feel right at home. The studio apartment has everything you need except for a couch/love seat. The kitchen is full size with many appliances such as a toaster, coffee maker, oven, full size refridge, etc. There are plenty of outlets to plug in U.S. stuff. The AC works good although nothing for the bathroom. Yes there are numerous dogs around but they are very small and do not approach you because John has a "no dog contact" policy. We had no issue with sleeping at night because of them. Once in awhile we could hear the neighbors dog barking but the AC drowned them out. The bed was a bit hard but I have yet to find one that's not in my many trips to the Caribbean. John arranged to have a car for us for a cheaper rate than any car rental places and they dropped it off on Monday. Really nothing to it, sign a bunch of papers and your ready. Driving on the opposite side of the road is a leap of faith on day one but by the second you'll be a pro! I would describe the driving as a "go with the flow" style since many traffic lights dont work, no traffic cops and everyone is a maniac. The apartment is not by any shops/resturants but the Sandels resort across the street has a great beach and John will arrange to let you use their lounge chairs. The walk there is paved but on a steep hill (10 min). It will wear you out! Make sure to get out and explore! We drove to a different beach everyday while stopping at attractions along the way. It's definately a 3rd world country but we felt safe. I wouldn't recommend the street party on Friday night in Gros Inlet. There where a lot of shady people trying to sell me drugs. Best snorkeling that I found was at Anse Chastanet and then Anse Cochan. Best place to walk around and shop with tons of resturants was Rodney Bay. Bring lots of $$, food was so so for $75 - $100 for 2. The best meal we had was at Pizza Pizza for about $28. Overall staying at John & Shirleys allowed us to get out and enjoy, thanks!

Summary: The property is located approximately a one hour drive from Hewanorra IA so you get to see quite a bit of the island on the drive in. Our host, John and Shirley, were very helpful, recommending activities and suggestions for getting around. There's even a favourite taxi driver, Anthony...very pleasant and accommodating. Our unit, the studio apartment, was meticulously clean and fairly well appointed. Would have been nice to have a small couch to sit on to watch TV. The property is located on a hillside, so you're either walking up or walking down about 150 ft at 35 degree angle...wheelchair riders beware! Also note that transportation is required to get anywhere....buses are frequent and cheap (and interesting). The view is great...cruise ships in the bay passing in front of the property, the ocean in the distance. Great to sit in the shade on the 'patio/balcony' enjoying the cooling breezes. Not too many nearby activities/attractions/restaurants to enjoy, except perhaps a day at the nearby Sandals Resort. Recommend Rodney Bay for your 'western' shopping experience, Castries Market for your Carribean shopping experience, or various tours of your choice....John can help you arrange. So, on the downside.....the remoteness of the property AND the barking dogs, especially at night (bring earplugs!!)

Summary: My hubby and i just spent two weeks in the La rosa apt, the apt is spacious, clean, with great air conditioning, we made lots of meals because of our two weeks stay and enjoyed the views immensely. We recommend binouculars which we forgot and running shoes, you are walking and climbing up hills if you stay here. We loved it and really enjoyed the buses that were easy to ride after our tour of castries with the owners son it helped to familiarize ourselves with castries and our new home. This is a great start to your holiday and we recommend it. We then were travelling all around on the buses we went to pigeon island and marigot bay by bus its very cheap. We did find the cabs expensive we usually took bus to redruit beach rodney bay our fav beach for 16 EC round trip which is 6 US dollars...we went our for supper one night and it cost us 40 us dollars for cab ride to rodney bay ...and if you share cabs they just up the price per person....we just made our days around the buses and in the evening made our suppers at the villa and enjoyed the views...john and shirley helped us when we needed it....we missed having a pub or beach close by but adapted because of the beautiful villa and view..la toc beach is a fifteen minute walk downhill so you have to get back up hill lol...we would highly recommend staying here ...i personally had only one complaint and that was the barking dogs around villa and area..there are three dogs at villa they bark throughout day and night on and off ..no one else seemed to mind them but me ..thanks john and shirley for all your hospitality and also our tour guide of castries

Summary: My wife and I recently spent eight days on winter holiday in St Lucia. The majority of the time we stayed at a studio apartment at the Bayside Villa, just outside of Castries. We tend to avoid packaged experiences and touristic "destinations" in favor of immersion in local places and culture, and the Bayside Villa seemed to offer an affordable and pleasant place to spend our nights in St. Lucia. We were satisfied on these counts and more. The proprietors, John and Shirley, were wonderful hosts, very accommodating and generous in both time and advice. They helped us to get our bearings and to feel at home in Castries / St. Lucia. Once, at the beginning of our stay, their bright and engaging teenaged son even accompanied us to town and gave a charming tour of downtown Castries. We got to know a few locals and felt comfortable hanging out there, although the bulk of our time was spent on day-trips to beaches, hikes in national parks, and nearby towns and villages. For all of these the owners provided excellent recommendations. (We eventually spent a couple of days in Soufrieres and found Castries to be much more cosmopolitan and accessible, especially as a base of operations for other sights and activities in St. Lucia.) As advertised, there is a beach within easy walking distance (La Tac). Although this beach is dominated by a Sandals resort, it is nonetheless very pleasant, especially if you arrive early in the morning and more or less have the water to yourself. There are numerous beaches to be found within half an hour of Castries, accessible by taxi or, as we preferred, local buses and water taxis. The apartment itself was commodious enough for basic needs, and we managed to cook several nice meals in the little kitchen. We also spent many mornings and evenings on the porch dining, drinking, and watching the boats and ships come and go on the harbor. The view of the bay and Castries is spectacular. . . . All in all, an enjoyable and memorable stay, thanks in no small part to the kindness and thoughtfulness of the owners. We would definitely return!

Summary: This was our first VRBO experience but if they are all as good as this one we won't rent a hotel for vacation ever ! We rented both condos for 1 week and both were as clean, quiet, convenient and had a spectacular view on the Castries Bay. Big thanks to John, Shirley and the kids, we had a wonderful time. Very courteous hosts and they sure did help in making this vacation in St.Lucia very special. Hope to see you all soon !

Summary: We stayed in the La Marguerite apartment of Bayside Villa for six nights in March, 2012. The studio apartment was just the right size for the two of us, and was furnished with everything we needed for our stay. The owners, John and Shirley, were very accommodating hosts and provided us with insider tips on making the most of our stay. We enjoyed sitting on the small balcony and enjoying the views of Castries Bay. Bayside Villa is conveniently located on the bus route to Castries, and we made frequent use of the local buses to get to town, where we could transfer to other buses to further explore the west coast of St. Lucia. Though typically crowded, the buses are an enjoyable and inexpensive means of transportation around the island. We would recommend staying at Bayside Villa for its location in a residential community with convenient access to all that Castries has to offer.

Summary: We left the winter-cold Toronto, Canada, in January and and arrived to balmy St.Lucia a few hours later, staying in La Rose apartment in Bayside Villa in January. The bay views from the terrace are breathtaking and very relaxing with sail boats, fishing boats and huge cruise ships gliding right by, you could really enjoy your morning coffee and all hours just enjoying the view. The cruise ships leaving at dusk with all lights glittering and majestically gliding through the calm sea is just like a scene from a movie... We really had fun taking local mini buses to bustling city centre, it is very cheap and you only need to wait less than 5 min. at any given time and it only takes another 5 min. to get there. Almost every day we went to the huge local market buying fresh veggies, fruits and fish: cooking was easy in the apartment's fully equipped kitchen. The villa is clean, safe and comfortable, we did not even need to use air conditioning, since sleeping with open windows is totally safe. Owners Shirley and John are the best, they know everything about St.Lucia, excellent info when we needed. An easy place to take day trips anywhere on the island!
