Positive: Location was very good for what was needed. bed was comfortable.
Negative: Breakfast was a continental style which was not what I had hoped for, that said the proprietor did make contact beforehand to check that this was OK so I knew what to expect I guess. Ideally given the amount paid, I would have expected a cooked breakfast . There was the option to have eggs and warm croissants, toast, yogurts and fruit. Alex was very attentive and did his very best to make our stay as good as he could. The heating in my room was a little confusing, there was a thermostat on the wall but could see no radiator for it to control or any sign of underfloor heating, I turned the thermostat up but there appeared to be no increase in temperature of the room. (On the other hand some of my traveling companions remarked that their rooms were too hot! You couldn't open the windows due to the very high winds.) The bathroom was cold in the morning and was prone to condensation due to there being lack of extractor fan. The bathroom window in my room I couldn't close fully, which allowed a draught to come through which I guess wouldn't normally have been an issue but given the extreme wind over a couple of nights, the bathroom blind was being caught by the draught so I had to pull it up overnight to stop it rattling. The shower in my room was very good, however the drainage was not able to cope with the amount of water from the shower at full pressure and you ended up having to reduce the flow of the shower to prevent the water overflowing the shower tray and on to the floor. I think there are some plumbing issues at this property as others I traveled with remarked having issues with toilets not filling very quickly.

Positive: Anvil House is close to town centre and the bus stop. It's also close to the seaside. Room was fine, beds were large and comfortable, hairdryer available. Bathroom was clean. Kettle and tea, sugar, biscuit supply in a room. There was only continental breakfast available (we were informed about it upon our reservation), but we could get lovely fried eggs and warm croissants.
Negative: Toilet flusher had to be pressed few times before the water started flushing.
Summary: Alex is a great host, very hospitable and makes guests feel really welcomed. He is a good cook, too.
