Positive: The staff at Ashburnham are second to none. We were well looked after from the moment we arrived. The feel of the building and its time period have been well preserved and the theme is strong throughout. The food was excellent, the best Sri Lankan curry I have had here and the breakfast was delicious and ample. The private waterfall was a wonderful surprise to go and explore while enjoying our stay. The room was clean and comfortable and there was communal sitting area for guests to enjoy with comfy sofas and chairs and local reading material.
Negative: We liked everything. One small improvement would be a kettle and tea making facilities in the room, this is personal preference, however I think it would add something to the experience as Ashburnham is a tea plantation estate.

Positive: We had an amazing family holiday at Ashburnham Estate. The house was beautiful and the location stunning. A huge thank you to Kalinga, Dinush, Vish and the Chefs for taking care of us so well. The food was simply outstanding. A visit to Sembuwatte lake and one Tree Hill is a must.

Positive: Beautiful location. House oozes character and is beautifully designed. Staff are warm, attentive and very professional. The food is outstanding.
Negative: Its a lot more remote than it looks on a map. Great place to stay and relax. Not the best situated if wanted as a base for extensive sightseeing.

Positive: Extremely helpful and friendly staff, set in a beautiful location that is extremely peaceful! It felt a bit like going back in time. The food was continually excellent and you can sit on the balcony, eat great food, with a g&t and watch the sun set and wildlife run around. There is also a lot of options for either relaxing (hanging out by the pool) or being active (tea tours, walks waterfalls etc). It had a bit of everything which made it a good place to be for a few days. We could have definitely staid longer.

There’s a rare quality to this place—an effortless elegance and warmth that welcomes you the moment you arrive. The landscape is breathtaking, with rolling hills, and quiet, expansive views. Every detail of the experience feels considered, from the beautifully curated interiors to the gentle rhythm of each day. The food was exceptional, and prepared and served with genuine hospitality. Ashburnham offers not just a break from the everyday, but a complete shift in pace. The whole fteam is gracious and attentive without ever being intrusive, and their warmth and professionalism enhanced the sense of calm and care. I travel a lot, and I don’t believe there’s anywhere quite like it, thank you Vish, Daniel and the team! We will return again I’m sure!
