Located on the 1st floor. Living / bedroom with bed 180 x 210 and kitchen with dishwasher, refrigerator, Nespresso, kettle, microwave, reading lamps. Sofa bed 160 x 200 for 2 extra beds. Shower, toilet, washbasin with hairdryer. Garden chairs, WiFi, TV. Outside there is a garden bench, there are garden chairs and two playgrounds for children. Your boat can be moored possibly for the door. Monnickendam has a nice center with restaurants and shops. There is a wonderful bakery for bread and cake. Every year there are many events, Jan Haring race, sing festival, Waterland Kerkeland. Every Saturday there is a market in the center.

Summary: We stayed here for 2 nights and it was beautiful. The apartment was immaculately clean and like new. The main bed was comfy and the sofa bed in the lounge was a large single bed with a pull out second single trundle bed which fit our teenagers well. The communication with the manager was great and they were super responsive and helpful. There’s a cooktop and dishwasher (but no oven). Fly screens on all windows The village itself is beautiful and there’s a decent size supermarket a 10 min walk away. We initially caught the train to Amsterdam, then the metro to Amsterdam Nord, then a bus to Monnickendam. Be aware that the buses to Monnickendam are run by a different company (EBS) than are covered by the usual Amsterdam travel card which is for travel on GVB buses/metro/trams. We’d presumed we’d be needing the metro whilst we were there and paid for a 2 day card, but it was a waste because we only took one metro initially then discovered there was an EBS bus directly to/ from Monnickendam to Amsterdam Central. We also went to Volendam and rented bikes and followed a proposed bike route as advised by “rent & event” where we saw beautiful farmland, a cheese making demo and cows being milked, cheese tasting, a clog shop and a windmill. We then came back to the Volendam village and had great takeaway fish and chips at “De Lunch” and amazing waffles and strop waffle at “woltje’s backerij” Only negatives: no spare blankets - was cold. Was loud music on Saturday night.

Summary: Fantastic property and a very very quaint neighborhood. Restaurants are a short walk and the bus to Amsterdam is only 20 minutes. One of the cleanest properties I've ever visited.

Summary: 1) Stairs: It says ground floor & mentions scaffolding (which means construction stand). It does not mention steep metal stairs out front or steep & long stairs (with one side totally open) as soon as you open the door to the apt. You must climb them to get to the apt. Imagine having a one year old & a flimsy gate you have to put up & take down every time you come & go; must also keep baby away. Out front, I had to carry the baby & the stroller up and down those steps every time we came & went. When I was looking at places, I was specifically focused on ones on ground floor or with an elevator. 2) Key: Does not work properly. Takes 10-20 tries every time to get the key in and door opened. 3) Temperature: Sun faces the apt and heats it up. Windows open in a weird way and you need to close the shades to keep sun out to try to cool it but this also blocks the air and the gorgeous view. 4) Washer/Dryer: This is listed as an amenity. A normal person would assume it is in the unit or else close by within the building. Something key for a single mom with baby. It is actually a separate laundry room about a block away-not ideal for my situation. Broken one of the times. 5) High chair-unusable, unsafe…no straps and table way to high to use with it. 6) Baby crib came wo sheets 7) lights come on at night w/little movement. 8) Owner had a true ground unit avail after 2 nights but refused to move me. Owner was u willing to remedy even the high chair. These people are jerks.

Summary: The location and comfort of this apartment made our time in Monnickendam so much more special. We could not be more pleased with the friendly service of our host, Nienke! When we travel, we prefer to stay on the outskirts of a city to avoid the noise and crowds of the downtown ambience. My husband loves the water and boating. We had a great view of both. We were a 16 minute bus ride from Amsterdam Noorde and easily were able to tour museums and eat out in Amsterdam. Back in Monnickendam, we were close to bus stops taking us to Volendam where we rented bikes for the day, and visited more than one cheese factory, a giant windmill, ate delicious ice cream and enjoyed all the towns along the Gouwzee coast. It was the perfect trip for this family of 4! Very affordable and gave us memories we'll treasure for many years to come.

Summary: A beautiful property just a quick business outside of Amsterdam. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The town is adorable and the restaurants had delicious food. We would love to come again to spend more time.
