Positive: It's a lovely place to stay, there are just two bedrooms rooms available in this nice old cottage, built in 1783. The bathrooms are not en-suite but there are two big spacious bathrooms, each one being allocated to a specific bedroom. Our hostess, Alice, is lovely and she provided a very welcome pot of tea with lovely home-made cake in the garden when we arrived. As we were performing at a huge motorcycle event in Helmsley over the weekend, we were getting back to the cottage at 2:00am tired and worn-out, and each night Alice left tea, coffee, bread and cake etc. out for us in the breakfast room. The bedroom was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. The cottage is just outside the pretty village of Lastingham, so it is nice and peaceful. We had dozens of Swallows performing spectacular aerobatics just outside the bedroom window and lovely views across the valley. The cooked breakfast was excellent with generous portions and the two family dogs are very pleasant and friendly, particularly if you give them a sneaky bit of cake. There is free parking too. This was our second stay and we will definitely be back next year!
Negative: We were only there for the weekend, it would be nice to have stayed longer and explored the village and the stunning countryside surrounding the cottage.
Summary: An idyllic, peaceful reminder of a pastoral England from a more tranquil era.

Positive: Loved our stay, and very sorry to leave. A comfortable, traditional property of great character and charm on the edge of a picturesque village. Fantastic breakfast; friendly and gracious hosts. Great views, lovely garden to relax in, quiet, comfy bed, walks to the village and pub or out on the moors. Perfect base for exploring the moors, other lovely villages, the coast and York. We would definitely return.
Negative: Lighting a bit low in the bedroom; no tv (though we did not miss it!)
Summary: Pure Yorkshire charm
