Positive: The staff was kind. Room was spacious. It's good to have a somewhat (by Swiss standards) affordable option for a stay in Basel. There is a good public transportation connection right next to the hostel. There is a free public transportation pass for any stay in Basel, and the hotel reservation can be used for the transfer from the airport to the hotel/hostel, so that was great (not specific to this hostel, but any hotel/hostel in Basel).
Negative: Not a big fan of shared bathrooms, nevertheless there was enough bathrooms and they were clean. Small irritants: A male guest just in loose undies making use of the facilities, not a good looking one either. Not sure where the blow-drier mentioned in the description was to be found, just hand soap in the way of toiletries. Sound isolation not that great + families with small children making full use of their developing lungs, but luckily not during the night. But overall no major complaints.

Positive: Uncomplicated check-in with friendly staff who offered extra information. The room was spacious and clean and light and really cozy. Showers, toilets etc were nearby and clean. We stayed for one night as we were visiting friends and family in Basel and it was perfect. The location is also good - quite central but still very quiet.
Negative: The mattress on the bed really needs to be changed. I understand that a hostel won't have hotel-class mattresses and I like a hard mattress but it had a dip in the middle you could feel the wood underneath through it and I was glad I only had one night sleeping on it. Also be aware that this private room was on the 2nd floor of a building with only stairs so if you have luggage or are not so mobile this might be an issue for you.

Positive: everything is clean, easily accessible, the staff is really chill and friendly, the people in the kitchen are nice and interesting to talk to, bathrooms are good, BONUS - I didnt know that unlimited public transport tickets were included in the price. Beds and pillows are really comfy.
