4 Bedroom Cabin in Grayling

Tucked into the tall pines alongside the Holy Waters. The Castaway offers an amazing location for enjoying all the Au Sable River has to offer. The cabin was purchased in 2009 for family use. We quickly realized how much we loved the location and invested in upgrading the accommodations, knowing we will have the place for many years to come. The renovations were completed in 2010 and we couldn’t be more excited about the outcome. The cabin now has two nicely sized full bathrooms and four well-furnished bedrooms in addition to expanded kitchen and mudroom areas.
The setting couldn’t be more perfect. Just outside the kitchen, guests will enjoy an outdoor living area with a shaded 6 person table, comfortable couches, and a large fire pit. Perfect for cooking over the open flame, relaxing with a good book, or snuggling up to watch the star-filled night sky. The deck around the front of the home has a grill and another 4 person table with umbrella.
The cabin itself sits about 200 feet back from the river. Down near the river, there is a tree swing and a grass clearing. It’s perfect for sitting in the Adirondacks while awaiting just the right moment to wet your line. Entry into the river off the property is ankle deep gravel. There are plenty of deep water pockets with the large trout of your dreams lurking nearby. There are plenty of spots for wading anglers or we would be happy to recommend local guides and fly shops.
For those not familiar with the Grayling area, it offers more than just some of the greatest fly fishing. The river itself attracts tubers, kayakers, and canoeists. Our cabin is situated between Burton’s Landing and Keystone Landing. Grayling is also in the center of a region with the most incredible golf courses such as Forest Dunes, Treetops, and Boyne Mountain. Looking for a nearby small beach? Kneff Lake is a small hidden local spot for kids to play in the sand and water. Wellington Farms, a historic working farm, also makes a great visit for something out of the ordinary.
The winter months attract many who loves the outdoors. Whether you are into snow-shoeing, cross country skiing, sledding, or downhill skiing, you will find a spot to keep you engaged. The cabin has a perfect sledding hill and comes equipped with a nice hot cocoa maker. Hanson Hills offers many trails for year-round adventures. Treetops offers downhill skiing and tubing (with reservations) about 30 minutes away. Boyne Mountain is about 45 minutes – 1 hour away.
We especially like to cater to family gatherings, anglers, and couples. Out of respect to our neighbors we do request that there aren't any large gatherings or late nights that would disrupt their quiet river setting.

Summary: The house met our needs perfectly (6 women, 65-75 yo) The house was well kept, clean and "cute." Owner's instructions were superb (including directions, since Google Maps may give you bad instructions.) There was room for all of us to sit in the living room and at the dining table at the same time. We enjoyed kayaking past and recognizing "our place."

Summary: Exactly as described on the listing. More than enough room for my family of 5. Centrally located in Northern Michigan making pretty easy trips to sleeping bear dunes, traverse city, Charlevoix and others. Wish we’d have know the canoe marathon started the day we were scheduled to leave. Would have definitely stayed another night to watch paddlers go by on the river behind the house. Can’t say enough about this place, we truly enjoyed our stay and the home.

Summary: The cabin was nice and spacious enough for 5 people. Lots of well labeled light switches. The bedrooms were all separate from the living area and they kept the sound down when other people were up. Short walk to easy entry into the Au Sable, and a great location for easily getting into Grayling and the surrounding area.

Summary: The home is well taken care of and was perfect for our family. The river is what we come for and this home has a wonderful clean area that you can walk right into the river. We love going "up north" to get away and typically go every year. Though this home has close neighbors (very nice people!), it was still very enjoyable and the nicest place we have stayed "up north".

Summary: 6 adults and one 3 year old spent 6 days at Castaway. We would rent again. We fished, canoed and had a fun time wading in the river The interior was clean, kitchen well stocked. The only negative was the hatching of the gypsy moths which were everywhere but better the moths than mosquitoes.
