This summer home previously known at Chateau Des Sables has been re-named 'Howe Bay Hideaway' and we trust that the reason will become clear to any guest, whether they're marveling at the sparkling sand of Howe Bay, turning their attention to the very substantial home itself while enjoying unparalleled privacy!
With four bedrooms and three bathrooms (see details below), the house is indeed a large one and will easily accommodate 10-12 people. Two of the upstairs bedrooms have walk-out private balconies with magnificent ocean views! All four upstairs bedrooms open out with double doors to a central mezzanine area that features 24' high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. There are many comfortable seats throughout the house whether one wishes to sit quietly and look out at the bay, prefers cozying around the wood burning fireplace or lounge and play in the TV/media room. The kitchen has been refitted with all new stainless steel appliances and the large dining table has been moved to the adjoining screened-in room for relaxed vacation meals!
Enjoy the large screened gazebo or lounge on the sundeck overlooking the water below.
Plan to walk and explore the deserted beaches, clam flats and vast sandbars of beautiful Howe Bay! If you are lucky to be here during a full or new moon the tidal changes are spectacular.
Splash with younger children into the wonderful little pools of water left behind by the tide and heated by the sun.
Feel the undulating ridges of sand under your feet and run far over the shallow water and into the surf.
Dive from the sandy point into the deep water of the channel and try swimming against the current or let it wash you over to the flats.
Take the canoe or two kayaks provided with the property for a paddle around the bay.
Later in the evening, enjoy a lively bonfire with the moon, lighting the surf below!

Please note that this house books by the week (Sunday check-in and out) in peak season! Also worth considering, this house is in a rural area of PEI, there is 1 KM of dirt road to travel which can be muddy if it rains (quite manageable), there are also mosquitos, and if you are bringing pets please beware of other curious creatures around the neighborhood like dogs from other nearby guest cottages and the occasional skunk (eek). These are things that are encountered on much of the island. This is not to deter you from the beauty of this home and area, but to make sure that you are prepared for what you will find. It is the perfect escape from the bustle of the city!!!! This property is for sale, so we would like for you to know in advance that there is a remote possibility that a realtor will need access for showings during your stay. We will do our best to schedule these when there are no guests, but sometimes it is unavoidable. Summary: Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Was very spacious and we all felt very comfortable. We were 8 whovstayed and had no issues at all. Rachel even offered for us to stay an extra night due to our inability to get away due to hurricane Lee. We managed to book a very late ferry but the fact that we could have stayed had we needed sold me on the place. Will definitely stay here again when we come back

Summary: What a great house for a family vacation! It had everything we needed and more. The youngsters enjoyed the large selection of toys and the older kids enjoyed the kayaks and canoe. There was a lovely beach just next door and you could walk on the sand flats and search for beach glass on the shores. The only thing that wasn't good was the mosquitoes, there were too many to be able to take advantage of the lovely lawn and fire pit, though we did try once. My advice, bring some tiki torches loaded with citronella.

Summary: We had an amazing stay here in Howe Bay. The cottage was beautiful inside and out. Inside was very clean and spacious with a well equipped kitchen. Outside the property had great views from the deck, a well maintained lawn area and steps down to the sandy beach. Our dog loved running around on the sandbars during low tide. A short drive to the nearest town (Souris) for groceries/supplies when needed. About 30 min drive to some fantastic golf courses as well. Our family would absolutely stay here again.

Summary: We had a great stay, the house is gorgeous, and an interesting design. The property was perfect for a quick family getaway, and there were a lot of different birds on the flats during low tide which was great for some amateur birders.

Summary: This June my wife and I spent two of the most relaxing weeks we could imagine on P.E.I. My Scottish ancestors arrived on the island in 1830 and we enjoyed visiting cemeteries and discovered my great great grandfather’s grave. Rachel’s house was so comfortable and contained everything we might have needed. Peg and I both enjoy cooking and the kitchen was particularly well equipped with pots, pans and gadgetry. On P.E.I you definitely need a lobster pot and we had two. Every morning we heard and saw the lobster boats working the bay. With an expansive deck we enjoyed grilling often. The temperature fluctuations surprised us but when it cooled off we had a wonderful fireplace to warm our sitting area. We expected mosquitoes but were pleasantly surprised by their absence. We can’t say enough about the views. The island itself is remarkably beautiful and to stay in a home on the water meant we were constantly entertained and intrigued. The tidal fluctuations leave large sandbars just offshore that became sunning spots for seals traveling by. The property is charmingly secluded without a feeling of isolation. The dirt road in splits potato fields on either side and creates a very rural feel. Supermarkets and gas stations are within easy reach and we made frequent runs to MacPhee’s in Souris. Must do should include, What’s the Scoop for ice cream, Julio’s for live lobster and MacDonald’s Bakery for breads and other things delicious.

Summary: Loved the sandbar when tide went out, lots of room inside house table seats 8,, bring lots of mosquito repellent!!! Overall great location and vacation at this house ! It’s our 2nd time renting and loved it!

Summary: Fantastic property if you are looking for a peaceful vacation on a beautiful red sand bay. Communication was superb from both the owner and property manager. House was clean and very well equipped, from the kitchen to the abundance of towels for both showering and the beach. The beach was incredible when the tide was out, offering huge sandy areas to lounge at (without the bugs that stay closer to shore) and super private. Also a short 25 min drive to the beautiful Basin Head beach with white "singing" sands. The entire family had a great time, while the kids were sad when it was time to pack up and leave. Thank you for the great hospitality Rachel and Lauren. Highly recommended!
