Positive: As the villa was situated at the top of a very high mountain with narrow steep streets, it was breathtakingly beautiful although difficult to access - either by foot or by car. The view from our living room and balconies was unparalleled, and the villa itself is charming and authentic. The host was very helpful. He makes his own cheeses and cured meats, including deer. He cooked for us in his villa below for only 50 Euros a person.
Negative: There was barely enough cutlery, crockery and kitchenware for the 5 of us. One of the rooms was pretty cramped with an uncomfortable bed, but there were some wonderful touches in the bathrooms and it was overall very comfortable. There were only 3 bedrooms (not the advertised 4), which may have been a result of a mix-up; we ended up staying in Villa Letitia not Villa Nigra, though all correspondence was headed Villa Nigra. There was also a surprise 120 Euro cleaning fee after staying 3 nights!
Summary: Overall, Cortona is a wonderful place but you have to be fit and if you are driving, intrepid!

Positive: Authentic Italian experience lodging. Nestled up in the hillside led to amazing views of the city, expansive valley, and lake Trasimeno. Charming lodging that comfortably fit 6 adults and 1 kid. The host (Luca) was phenomenal. Very attentive and prompt with responses. He hosted us for an Italian lunch that was 10/10!
Negative: Not negative, but to be aware that this lodging is a 10 minute uphill hike from city center. Be prepared for the cobblestone trek. You can take various ways up to reduce the incline and provide more breathtaking views of the area.
