A great spot for a family holiday at an affordable price.
Swimming, kayaking, bush and beach walks, fishing, diving, whitebaiting, sightseeing is all within easy walking or driving distance.(or reading, watching tele, enjoying a tipple, and sleeping if that's more your idea of a holiday...)
The Catlins is a bit of a "well-kept secret" and Kaka Point is an excellent gateway to this district. On a days outing you can see stunning scenery, all sorts of marine mammals and birds, or enjoy any number of beach or bush walks. Alternatively, bring your flounder net, or snorkelling gear and grab yourselves a feed. The wee kids love collecting cockles, which you can cook up the following day.
If the weather is inclement, light the fire, put on some old records, and have a relaxing time enjoying the solitude.
If you need to bring a pet, please enquire personally. Please note that the section is not fully fenced and that pets and or children have a very large area of bush behind the house in which to get lost!
There is tea and coffee in the crib. Please take perishable food away when you leave.

Summary: A brief trip with an international visitor we loved our short stay. House was perfect, not fancy but everything you need. Walking distance to beach and pub (although pub is closed Sunday & Monday night). Would recommend this property.

Summary: It was fine but process of booking and paying was difficult. The other things which spoilt an otherwise great stay- no wifi ( we assumed there would be) and no clear directions to find property which was tucked away up a drive that had no directions, and no number on or near house. We spent ages trying to locate house.

Summary: Great access to the beach and the tennis courts. We went for a bush walk near by. We loved playing the records into the night. The lighthouse and Owaka were close by too. Just loved it.

Summary: We really enjoyed our long weekend at Bonnie Doon and will return again one day. Location is tranquil and serene. Birdsong and ocean sounds filled the morning air. Clean and practical with lots of beds and cosy living room. After beach walks we looked forward to hot chocolate and board games by the wood fire. The record player and selection of music on vinyl was a highlight for us. Other-worldly and much appreciated, Bonnie Doon is a treat. Communication was easy with the owners and all went smoothly.

Summary: We went down to Kakapoint for Kings birthday weekend. There were 6 of us , for a quilting weekend. Lovely place always clean tidy and toasty warm. We have stayed here before and will do again 😊 Great value for money and friendly owners.
