Positive: Loved the property and the owning family. We let them know in advance we would arrive in a car and they attended to our needs. The breakfast was amazing. Good Peruvian oven baked bread, orange and papaya juice. It wasn’t just a place to stay overnight but we also had fun talking with the owner, the chef and their family. They were very eager to tell us about the neighborhood.
Negative: The building is slightly old, and the room had limited ventilation. It was large land property closed off from the outside, so we left the door open a little when sleeping
Summary: All good. Had a memorable trip.

Positive: The staff went absolutely above and beyond for me and my family to ensure that we enjoyed our stay! Initially, we we only booked one night here. However after arriving and seeing how lovely Casona Mollepata was and how kind and welcoming the people of Mollepata were, we decided to extend our trip and we were so happy we did. Fredy and Ruben were excellent hosts, Fredy is a wonderful cook and Ruben is a fantastic artist! They were very knowledgable about the history of Peru as well as things to do in the area. We are very thankful to have found this gem and hope to visit again soon!

Positive: The property is clean and it appears to be the only hotel in Mollepata so options are limited.
Negative: The owners appear to be very desperate for money and nickeled and dimed us for everything they could. They charged us an additional fee to cover the commission they have to pay to Booking.com. They are the only hotel that I have experienced that has this business practice. We stayed for 2 nights and were not told we needed to turn on the hot water heater in order to have hot showers until the 2nd day. Not directly tied to the property however the town has very limited options for food which also makes the experience a challenge. I have been to 80+ countries with many being more rural than this and I have never experienced anything like this. If you are planning on hiking the area just make it a day trip from Cusco or stay in one of the many glamping options in Soyrapompa and it will be a more pleasant experience.
Summary: Could of been worse I guess

Positive: Rubén and the rest of the staff were amazing hosts. Their place is located in Mollepata, about 45 minutes from the start of the hike to Laguna Humantay from Soraypampa (about 1.5 hrs each way with the altitude), and also located near the less visited Incan ruins of Choquechurco (in a moss covered forest with great vistas, a very spiritual place). Ruben's zest for life and passion is contagious; he is a very impressive sculptor who pre-Covid had a shop right along Plaza de Armas in Cusco. He let me help him take his horse Estrella out to feed on grass, and even took me on a private tour to the ruins at Choquechurco. Staff was so accommodating and let me use their kitchen to prepare a salad with my breakfast. They served me an excellent plate of Lomo Saltado for my birthday with a soup of cream of Asparagus. Met some new friends in their restaurant who became my hiking buddies to Lake Humantay (nice to have photographers when traveling solo!). Highly recommend!
Negative: I didn't realize I booked one of their rooms without a private bathroom, but that's on me!

Positive: I have traveled extensively in Perú. All over the country. I've been traveling in Perú for work and pleasure for nearly 30-years. When you find a true gem of a place you find yourself in a conundrum - should I tell the rest of the traveler world about it?! Well, the Casona Mollepata is a place that everyone should know about and consider making a "must visit" destination. Nestled on a mountain hamlet in the sleepy town of Mollepata the Casona is an old hacienda with an attractive décor and an incredible host team. From the moment I made a reservation - made in the car as we drove from Ica to the Sacred Valley - we knew we were in good hands. From a WhatsApp message confirming the reservation to GPS coordinates to ease our travels. The Casona is very simple - but incredibly clean and well laid out. The restaurant is the first point of entry and it is worth an evening meal or two. The courtyard contains a number of art projects all crafted by the owner and his family. The rooms are newly renovated, clean, and complete with hot showers, extra blankets and toiletries. What we enjoyed most about our stay was the true family-friendly atmosphere we experienced. We will most certainly be back.
Negative: A note for families traveling with little ones or travelers living with a disability - accessibility to the top floor rooms is a bit tough, as you need to navigate some narrow stairs. Not to worry - as there are ground floor rooms that can be accommodating.
Summary: Well Worth a Visit
