Summary: Noise from main road outside. Could benefit from secondary or double glazing. The stairs are very steep and not easy to carry a case up. Very nice breakfast.

Summary: We stayed for 2 nights when attending a wedding locally. Couldn't fault anything during our stay. We had diner on the first night and after speaking with the chef (Cam) about food preferences he offered something off the menu that was delicious. The room was lovely, loads of space and the hotel itself and grounds made for a really nice break. Enjoyed a cool swim in the pool on the first night after a long drive which was just what we needed.

Summary: First time staying here. Impromptu mini get away with my 7yr old daughter. Only 1 negative from me, which was the main reason for booking here, was the outside heated pool. First thing we did after placing bags in our room, was go straight to the pool. Unfortunately not for long, as the pool was freezing. Staff apologised and said they would get the caretaker to take a look in the morning. They advised they'd had a power cut to the pool. The pool was a little warmer the next night, but still not enough, so unfortunately the main selling point for our booking we weren't able to use. The staff were really apologetic about this. I know a lot of people have mentioned they weren't happy about the change in breakfast service. We enjoyed the continental style breakfast. I was a little surprised, as i thought a cooked breakfast would be on the menu. It's continental during the week, & cooked breakfast at weekends. The gardens are beautiful, & wow what a view from the top, stunning! Our room was nice, my daughter especially loved the shower! Good choice of different teas/coffee/biscuits & fresh water in the room. Comfy bed. The cars going past are quite loud, but not to often at night & didn't wake us up. The light coming under the door from the hall was quite bright... maybe a door draft thing or something along the bottom the the door to block this out would be a good option? Staff, super friendly & helpful. Graciously take on feedback. Would definitely stay again 😊

Summary: I've very mixed feelings after my 3-night break at The C of C which I'd so been looking forward to. I understand it has quite recently undergone some changes, for example re. staffing. I don't want to make it personal but I'd just say I didn't really feel welcome by the guy in charge. I didn't see him smile once and when he entered the dining room at breakfast (there was only me sitting there!) he didn't make eye contact, let alone saying good morning but walked straight past! I understand he was standing in for his father who is the recent owner of the lovely property. Other staff members seemed much more friendly and approachable but sadly they didn't seem to be around much, presumably because the hotel was so quiet with few guests Evening meals were scrumptious; compliments to the chef. Freshly cooked and great attention to detail. I had the salmon and pea ravioli the first night and the chicken Kiev then second. Both exceptionally good. Sadly they breakfast was the opposite; croissants sat out overnight (admittedly under cover) and the ham on offer with the (tasty) farmhouse cheese was the processed supermarket thin sliced stuff Evening meal was served in the same (breakfast) room so not particularly cosy or comfy and certainly didn't do the food itself justice Room (Mariner) bed fab but shower power very low/poor; washing, conditioning rinsing hair took forever! Also, loo flush crammed in tiny space difficult to operate Pool lovely but NOT heated Gardens gorgeous

Summary: We stayed here with our two-year old. Firstly the positives: - Stunning gardens and views. Gardens are immaculately kept. - Use of pool was a real bonus. - Clean, well-furnised, and comfortable bedrooms with everything you need including toiletries, refreshments and bathrooms. Great hairdryer. - Fantastic shower with excellent pressure and temperature. - Fabulous and friendly housekeepers. They made us feel welcome. The areas I think could be improved: - Breakfast started well on the weekend, but deteriorated over the week. Still adequate, but a but disappointing, especially when the cafetiere was replaced with little cups of coffee. - There was no bar service after about 9pm. We like quiet places, but it would have been nice to have been able to get a drink on a night. - It seemed like the management are missing a trick somewhere. It was the height of summer and it seemed quite under occupied. - Finally, a lot of the facilities that are listed on the website did not exist when we got there. There was no cake on arrival, no sherry decanter in the room, no lunchtime service. I get the feeling that there might be some kind of financial struggle or cost cutting going on. Overall, we had an enjoyable stay and it really was a beautiful hotel and it would be a shame for it to lose it's charm through cutting back too much.

Summary: It’s a charming coaching hotel that needs investment. Slightly out of the way. That said, splendid steak dinner. Breakfast was a self serve, I assume because of a lack of staff in the kitchen. There comes a tipping point where cutting back further would be the end.
