Summary: The day we arrived, front office and bar/restaurant staff were there. People were sitting on the deck having drinks, there was music playing, and it was a beautiful atmosphere. After that day, we did not see any staff again. The restaurant, bar, and front desk were completely abandoned for the next 3 days. We were not informed of the access code when the hotel was locked - we stood outside in the rain for several hours, calling the hotel, calling the emergency number - nobody ever answered. While the property was beautiful, our room was perfect, and the location was unbeatable, the lack of staff and customer service completely ruined it. The hotel advertises English speaking staff - WRONG. They advertise front desk is open 8am - 10pm - WRONG. They advertise their restaurant and bar are open 8am - 10pm - WRONG. We finally happened to run into the owner of the hotel - he was not concerned about our experience. He simply said it's the slow season.

Summary: Hotel was very accommodating to us. Rooms and common areas are all uniquely decorated. Located on north end of Chamonix by the Flegere-Les Peres gondola, not in town itself. Across from golf course. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Summary: I had stayed at this property before and it was lovely. Well kept, clean, fantastic restaurant with a different specialty menu for every night. This time it was worn down, simple amenities such as towels were missing, restaurant quite poor and service overall although staff trying very hard, not sufficient.

Summary: Our experience at Hotel Castel was deeply unsatisfactory. Staff were unhelpful, including a manager who refused to provide a hairdryer, leaving my partner with wet hair before a date. Another staff member eventually borrowed one from another guest—an unacceptable situation. Communication was lacking. We weren’t informed the hotel would lock at night and require a code, causing late-night confusion. The room’s housekeeping was inconsistent; towels weren’t replaced, glasses were left dirty, and water leaked onto the balcony floor daily, creating a hazard. The bathroom privacy was shocking. A window allowed anyone on the opposite balcony to see in, with no curtain or frosted glass to ensure privacy—an unacceptable invasion of privacy for a 4-star hotel. Breakfast was also a major letdown. We weren’t told it was chargeable, and on three out of six days, it wasn’t even available. When it was, options were extremely limited, with scarce gluten-free choices and inadequate amenities like a single coffee cup for all guests. Late check-out was inflexible, and the only storage offered for belongings was an unsecured boot room. Speaking with other guests confirmed a decline in the hotel’s standards compared to previous years. Overall, this was the worst experience we’ve had at a 4-star hotel. We hope management takes steps to address these significant issues.
