The cottage was built about 1930 and is set in a wooded area. Kitchen door opens onto the deck which is attached to a screened in gazebo. The gazebo is a perfect place for dining after sunset and chatting way into the night while being serenaded by crickets.
A couple steps from the deck leads you to the path that leads from backyard to Lou Street. Turn right and follow the tree lined road to the the top of the bluff looking down on Lake Michigan. There's a small deck with benches that is a great place to watch the sun go down. A flight of 91 steps will take you down to the beach.
Our sun room faces east and it a great place for an early morning cup of coffee. Throw open the french windows and enjoy the breeze and bird song.
The bedroom has a queen-sized bed with plenty of pillows to prop yourself up to read a favorite book. There is a window AC unit. Sheets and towels are provided.
Our kitchen is compact but has all the pot, pans, dishes and utensils you might want. The dining area is attached with views of the woods. Great home base for biking, hiking or just poking around in the shops.
The cottage rents by the week starting at 4 PM ET on Friday and ending at 11 AM on the following Friday. Weekly rentals from Memorial Day to Labor Day are $850. We do have weekend rentals from Labor Day through October 31. The cost for the 3-day weekend is $400.

Summary: This is a historic cottage which explains both its advantages and disadvantages. Surrounded by mature trees, the views from the kitchen/dining area, which has half-wall windows and simple country curtains, are soothing and lovely. One very early morning, i even heard an owl hooting and we both enjoyed lingering over breakfast to enjoy the view. The uneven floor in the kitchen, of which one reviewer complained, is doubtless the result of extending the house by closing in a back porch some time in the past. Similarly, the original doorknobs are all quirky and there is a trick to closing each one. It is a quiet wooded neighborhood yet very near Blue Star Highway and the interstate, so it is easy to get around. It is a good value for the space which includes a living room and a separate front room, another half-walled former porch I suspect, with a futon sofa. We had unseasonably cool weather for August and never needed to try the AC in the bedroom, but found the heat worked well after one night in the lower 50s. The screened-in gazebo was a nice way to eat dinner outside without being bothered by the mosquitoes or the other creatures which live in the woods. A small store and a restaurant at the crossroad a few blocks away make it easy to get provisions and a meal.

Summary: This 1932 cottage with a neat history was what we was looking for. The cottage was very charming , clean and tucked away in a wooded area. It was very peaceful to walk the street to Lake Michigan though the wooded lined road. The location was perfect and was not far from South Haven, Sagatuck, Douglas and Fernville for shopping and eating. (Fernville has a wonderful restaurants "Salt of the Earth " and a Mexican restaurant). The food was delicious. The owner Gaylon was wonderful and if we had any questions she answered right away. The communication was 5 star! We recommend this one bedroom cottage if you want to get away and relax and enjoy the simple things in life !

Summary: We booked both this smaller cottage and the larger cottage next door to participate in a family reunion. This cottage is smaller than the cottage next door, but it is super cute and very well maintained. My husband and I actually liked this cozy cottage more than the larger cottage! Gaylon was extremely responsive to all of our questions. If I was coming back to the area with just my spouse, I would definitely reserve this cottage again.
