2 Bedroom Cottage in Megrit, Mégrit

The Gite is one of 3 properties in this location (see also The Farmhouse and The Grange).
This stone built former cowshed is situated in a very tranquil part of rural Brittany, yet within convenient access to medieval Dinan (10 minutes) and a leisurely 30 minutes country drive from many excellent beaches on the north Brittany coast (Cote d'Armor). It stands in well maintained grounds of 1.2 hectares / 4 acres and looks down across rich farmland and wooded countryside.
You can safely walk, ride bicycles around the small local roads and marked trails directly from the property, with plenty of scenic variety, from corn and wheat crops to pasture and wooded/forest areas.
There is table tennis table and a spacious lawned areas to the front and side of the property for games of football, badminton etc. A BBQ area is provided in the courtyard for outdoor eating and to enjoy the afternoon or evening sunset.
Beaches & things to do: There is a great variety of things to do in the area without having to spend hours in the car. Within 45 minutes drive there are countless beaches to choose from such as le Val-Andre, Erquy, Sables d’Or, St Cast-le-Guildo, St Jacut-sur-Mer, St Briac, St Lunaire and Dinard to name a few. Coastal walks and spectacular coastal scenery is a feature of this region. Coastal walks including Cap Frehel, from St Pabu (park on Plage de Caroual) to Erquy or west to le Val-Andre are also recommended. Le Mont St. Michel is also a worthwhile day trip being one hour away. The route back via the 'shellfish coast' from Cherrueix to Concale and the superb beaches and coastal walks from Concale to St.Malo make for a memorable journey.
Mediaeval Dinan (10 minutes) is a wonderful place to visit, market day is Thursday. The cathedral city of Rennes and the direct TGV link to Paris is also within an hour’s drive. Within 2 hours drive the tapestries of Bayeux (near Caen) and the war cemeteries of Normandy (Omaha beach) and World War II museums are also worth considering.
Closer to home there is horse-riding in Plelan-le-Petit, golf in St Michel de Plelan, swimming, sailing, cycling and pedaloes at Jugon-les-Lacs (10 mins), go karting at Lamballe, a lovely aquarium at St Malo (also walk the ramparts).

Summary: It was a traditional french cottage and was a little basic and lighting was a bit poor at night. But as the weather was good we were outside a lot with the dog and the garden is great. Everything worked in the house but internet reception is quite poor unless you go to the garage.Had not realised we would be opposite other guests in a bigger place but that was no problem and made it interesting. Bed was comfortable and water hot in the shower. Couple of lovely pretty villages nearby one for shopping and one with a brilliant lake for walking around. There is a sports centre and swimming pool there attached to a campsite which offers a number of things to do and see. All round we had a great week.

Summary: We have stayed at the Gite twice now and definitely recommend it as the perfect location for a holiday hideaway for two. It's set amongst beautiful countryside affording cycling or long walks on lanes that see one or two cars a day at most. The Gite is well appointed, comforatable and warm. On sunny days the gardens allow for lazy relaxing days with a bottle of local wine and a good book, perfect for unwinding. Lots to visit in the local area with the coast only 40 minutes away and the medieval town of Dinan 20 minutes. An array of shops and cafes are to be found but for us the value and quality of the local produce tempted us to self cater most of the time and eat al fresco.

Summary: We had spent 6 days in Gite, and this was definitely one of the best vacations in our life. We'd been there at the end of November - beginning of December, there was lots of snow, and this was exactly what we wanted to see at this time of the year, we couldn't wish for a better weather. The house had everything we needed - it was clean, warm, had all amenities, and that was all we needed. It's perfect for two people, although could probably accomodate up to four. We had arrived late at night and had no problem finding the place, although GPS really helped us. The owners provided us with the GPS coordinates, and this helped us a lot. The location of Gite is great - in the middle of rural France, there are two beatiful small towns very close - Dinan and Dinard, and the majestic Le Mont Saint Michel is within a pretty short drive. For people who are looking for a romantic place to stay or want to explore the French culture this place is great. This is definitely not a place for the big city lovers or for those who is looking for some luxury accomodation.

Summary: We were 2 people coming to this property and I have to admit, it was quite an adventure, as we did not come from the direction indicated in the description. So we had to go to Plelan le Petit to find the place from there, the description is great! Arriving there late around 9 pm everything was prepared, but it was totally dark. The place is very romantic and offers enogh space for two people, for 4 I' d call it rather cosy. The equipment of the kitchen was adequate and we frequently prepared excellent meals. The property is in the middle of nowhere, which was wonderfully quiet and helped you to recharge the batteries, although the mobiles and blackberry's worked. The bed was a little soft, and the couch wasn't really too comfortable, nevertheless the oven made a wonderful warmth. I think I spent one of my best vacations there and I would recommend the gite any time. It's not luxurious, but very original.

Summary: This was our first Gite Holiday and we would certainly return. The Gite had all necessary amenities as detailed in the information received and the location is excellent with Plerin Le Petite having a good size Ecomarche supermarket. We used it as a base to visit places like St Malo, Dinan, Cap Frehel and Dinard and had one or two 'chilled out' days at the gite. Our own children are young adults and do n't holiday with us but other guests had children who seemed to enjoy the extensive grounds and safe and quite location. All in all the holiday was very enjoyable and represented excellent value. John
