3 Bedroom House in Caunes-Minervois

The house is on a cobbled pedestrian street in the heart of this historic village, right near the historic 12th century abbey. A car can be parked just nearby and Rue du Château is lovely and quiet in spite of its proximity to the centre of the village with its restaurants and the Mairie. It is on four floors - the lower ground with a utility room. The raised ground floor is a very large open-plan kitchen/dining/living room which opens via French Doors at the rear to its own courtyard garden complete with wood-burning pizza oven built into one of the walls. The first floor has a master bedroom with en suite bathroom and another double bedroom and family bathroom. The top floor is a large loft bedroom. The whole house has just been completely renovated to a very high standard and combines luxury with the 500-year old tradition of this lovely stone house. The kitchen has a 900mm wide range cooker, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. The kitchen is very well eqipped and contains all the things you need to create lovely French food during your stay.
Quality linen and towels are provided, the beds are comfortable and there is a good selection of pillows..
The large flat screen TV is connected to Orange and has approximately 300 channels. We have Satellite capability if you bring your own Sky Card.
The stereo/FM radio has an ipod dock as well as the ability to play music or radio from your Smart phone by Bluetooth.
We have free Wifi.
What to do: There is lots to do in Caunes itself and the wider region, which lends itself to visiting historic castles and churches as well as to cycling, walking or wine-tasting at all the local vineyards, many of which are engaged in a drive to go upmarket and so there are some really fine wines to be checked out across the Minervois. The landscape is scattered with beautiful historic villages such as Minerve and Mas-Cabardes. There is also a huge swimming/sailing lake nearby which is great fun. Most of all this is a restful holiday destination in one of France's oldest and most beautiful regions, with Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi very close by. If you fancy days out at the seaside, Mediterranean beaches are less than an hour away by car.

Summary: This home in the lovely little medieval village of Caunes-Minervois was an absolute delight! The building was very old and had lots of character, but the facilities inside were up to date and very comfortable. The house was stocked with all sorts of supplies, and Gary and Shelley had even left a lovely bottle of wine. Our little courtyard was a secluded little oasis hidden within the ancient city walls. The village was a delight to explore, and so central for day trips to other nearby cities and towns. If you are seeking a comfortable holiday in an old village, this is the perfect spot. Gary and Shelley were the perfect hosts with excellent communication!

Summary: We enjoyed the wonderful spotless home and amenities of a well stocked kitchen, with plenty of towels and bedding and comfortable beds. It is a central location from which to explore the amazing Aude valley. The townspeople were friendly and helpful. We took long morning walks through the countryside and long leisurely dinners prepared at home or in the towns several restaurants. Would love to come back. Would definitely chose to stay here again.

Summary: The house is in an excellent location, comfortable and very well equipped - perfect for us as a group of 5 adults. The patio is an ideal place to enjoy a meal or read a book beneath the vines. Nicola was responsive and very kindly arranged to return an item we had left behind - very grateful! Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Summary: My husband and I spent five night at the end of April in this house in Caunes Minervois and enjoyed it so much. Caunes is a small, quiet, medieval village, and this house is on one of the many cobblestone streets in the center of the village. From the street there are a few steps to climb either to get down to the laundry room (washer, no dryer but with laundry rack upstairs), or up to the main level where the kitchen, living room and patio are). The kitchen is great, the living room is cozy (fireplace), and the patio is lovely! There are two bedrooms with double beds and two bathrooms on the next floor (one with a shower, one with a tub), and an attic bedroom with 2 twin beds and skylight. It was a wonderful retreat for us at the end of days of travels through the area.

Summary: We found this property to be delightful and chic. It is well appointed, clean and roomy and was very comfortable for our group - 5 of us. It is situated in a lovely quaint French village which is well positioned for visiting scenic attractions in the surrounding area. The village has all the necessary services-a small supermarket, a choice of restaurants, an ATM and a fruit & vegie market on certain days. While there is no car parking at the house, there is suitable parking a short walk away. We enjoyed our stay.

Summary: We rented this charming house in September and were surprised how well equipped it was. There wasn't anything we missed. It is only a short walk to the bakery to get fresh goods for breakfast. The photos showed exactly what we found, when we arrived. Everything was well organized by Gary and Natalie. We also tried different restaurants in the village and really enjoyed our dinners. This nicely renovated house was the perfect place to relax after returning from our daily trips, especially the patio. We can really recommend this location. Sylvia

Summary: My husband and I booked this charming stone village house for 5 nights. The location is very central in the village and yet on a quiet side street so you have the best of both worlds. The house is well stocked with everything you will need for a short break in the kitchen and Nicola (manager) is local and very helpful. The property is decorated to a high standard, with lots of mod cons while maintaining a old, country feel. The courtyard garden is small but perfect for 2-4 people to enjoy a glass of wine or an alfresco lunch, it is a little sun trap and because of the location, very quiet. We enjoyed Caunes, it has a range of eateries suiting all budgets, plus local shops. Nearby there are many other villages to explore and the locals are friendly. We really appreciated the welcome bottle of local wine and the owners are great communicators, so the booking experience is pleasant and easy. We would absolutely return. Book with confidence, this place is an excellent choice!

Summary: Our 7 week stay at 4 Rue De Chateau was amazing. We could not have asked for more; in either the property or its location. We could not believe we had landed in such a picture book quaint village. From churchbells in the morning to the tooting croissant horn, we loved every inch of it. The quaint and beautiful, sympathetically renovated, stone 3 storey home is an absolute delight. Equipped with all the mod cons and a fabulous kitchen to cook up the plentiful foods sourced from the region. We frequented Chez Marlene, the weekly market and the Viva store on the other side of Caunes. We adventured further afield to Carcassone Pont Rouge to the mega Carrefoure supermarket - an experience in itself. The outdoor courtyard and old stone fireplace is a cozy place to sit and take in the terroir of Caunes. We cooked many bbq's and pizzas in the wood oven. The indoor wood stove warms up the house from top to bottom and the cozy lounge chairs are a perfect place to sit back and reminisce about our adventures. The decor is stunning and is reminiscent of the area. I It was our first time in Languedoc and we were stunned by the gorgeous scenery and providores. We spent many hours walking the tracks up behind Caunes, exploring the trails that criss-cross the beautiful forests. We followed many of the well known tracks taking us on unexpected adventures. On days we didn't walk we drove to many of the sights in the regions, including chateaus and ancient burial grounds. We spent quite a few evenings at the bar soaking up the friendly, local hospitality. We tried many of the restaurants, but our favourite was L'Oustal a Citou in Citou. You must try it. We highly recommend taking a wine tour of the region with Wendy from Vins et Vacance to explore the Minervois wines. She is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the area. We were relative newcomers to the wines and were blown away by the quality and price. We based ourselves in Rue De Chateau and it was easty travelling to Spain's West Coast and the East Coast of France. For our wedding anniversary we had pre-booked one of the world's best restaurant's Mugaritz in San Sebastian. This was an unbelievable experience and one of the highlights of our trip. We became very attached to our Caunes "home" and walking out the door for the last time was definitely a wrench. We hope to be back if Gary and Shelley will have us. Thank you Gary and Shelley for your wonderful hospitality!!
