Gourdon House | Charming stone cottage in heart of medieval town but close to countryside

2 Bedroom House in Gourdon

This five-hundred-year-old cottage was entirely renovated in 2014, while retaining many original features such as exposed roof-beams, some stone interior walls, eviers (old kitchen sinks - not now in use!), two cellars with bread ovens (not operational). There is a small garden and a small terrace leading off the main dining-room. Downstairs there is a large open-plan dining-room/kitchen, with an island unit containing two under-counter refrigerators. The gas hob and electric oven are in a former fireplace. There is a dishwasher in the kitchen and a washing-machine and freezer in one of the cellars. The kitchen window looks out onto a countryside view to the North of the town. The countryside to the North is less than 100m from the cottage. From the kitchen there are a few steps down to a separate living-room with two comfortable sofas and a fireplace with a wood-burner. From the kitchen area stairs lead up to the main bedroom on the left, which has a double bed and a window overlooking the garden. The ceiling is angled so the wardrobe is on the landing. The main bedroom and shower-room have sliding doors. The shower-room has a walk-in shower, wash-basin, mirror and toilet, and a Velux window. Past another small landing, separated from the rest of the upstairs by a door, is the second bedroom, which has a double bed and a small window looking out over the countryside. The hot-water system is an electric cylinder. All necessary crockery, cutlery, glassware, table-linen and small appliances such as kettle, toaster, blender are provided. In winter, heating is provided by individual programmable electric storage-type heaters in each room. (There will be an extra charge for this facility, if used.)
There is road access to the cottage for unloading purposes, but no dedicated parking. There is free, safe parking nearby (100m) on the main boulevard which encircles the old part of the town. Somewhat confusingly, this road has three different names in different sections.
For weekly lets, towels and sheets are provided. For longer lets, towels and sheets are provided, but tenants are expected to do their own laundry. A weekly cleaning and laundry service is available if required, at an extra charge.

Summary: Claudine was very welcoming and helpful and we found the cottage to be exactly as we hoped. We felt at home, and loved its interesting features. Sadly the weather was cold and damp, but a log fire soon warmed everywhere up. The location is perfect to explore Gourdon.

Summary: We had an amazing time in Gourdon. The property was exactly as seen in the photos - and the location was perfect for exploring the Dordogne whilst Gourdon provided plenty of choice of restaurants, with a fantastic wine bar within a 5 minute walk of the property.

Summary: My wife and I stayed here with our 2 children (9 & 12) for 4 nights in June. The house was very clean and comfortable for the four of us and fully equipped with everything we could need. Gourdon is a good base to explore the Dordogne region, as most of what we wanted to see was within an hour drive. The Grottes de Cougnac were only 5 min away, and not at all crowded. The kids enjoyed a couple of warm afternoons swimming at the Écoute-S'il-Pleut lake, also 5 min from the house.

Summary: This was our third visit to our favourite house in France. It is in a quiet road with a spectacular view across the valley, but just a few minutes walk from the bustling centre of the Medieval town. The house is spacious and well equipped, with lots of character and a small leafy garden. Llorca patisserie and the Saturday market are highly recommended.

Summary: We’ve stayed in a number of Vrbo properties over the past several years and mone have been as well outfitted as this! The McArthuers thought of everything to make this interesting property, located in the middle of the old town , comfortable and welcoming. The two of them were helpful and accessible and couldn’t have been friendlier. Thank you, Sallie and Ian, for a wonderful 7 night stay.

Summary: Gourdon is an excellent village to stay in to explore the Lot area of France. The cottage is very well restored ancient Bakers house with two bedrooms. All cooking utensils and creature comforts such as Internet and Television are included. A 15 minute return walk will bring excellent baguettes to the table, indeed the village has good restaurants and other shops. The owners were always helpful and the cottage was very clean. Highly recommended. Graeme and Jenny Benalla Victoria Australia
