The place is great for a walking or cycling break but also a the perfect base to explore the wonders of Connemara by car. A place to relax, to breathe fresh mountain air, and warm up by the fire after a day out.
The house is situated on the very top of the mountain on the edge of a forest and is surrounded by a landscape of natural beauty. The picturesque village of Oughterard is on the bank of Loch Corrib and is eight miles in one direction and access to the Irish speaking coastal Aran Islands are ten miles in the other. The city of Galway is a mere forty five minute drive away but the place feels like it is out on the edge of the world.
The property consists of a 1940's turf cutters cottage with two bedrooms, a study, conservatory, a bathroom and a country kitchen with modern utilities.
The cottage has a central living/dining room opening onto a conservatory. This property is carpeted throughout and heated by solid fuel stoves which feed the central heating system. It also has a small study with its own solid fuel stove.
The small print...
Please bring what you need with you in terms of food and drink, and plan to shop when out for the day. The nearest shops are 8 miles down a winding single-lane mountain road.
There is no TV but a good internet service.
Water supply is direct from the mountain stream and filtered through the natural wild peat bog and has a brown tint like the local lakes and streams. It is beautifully soft to shower in. Locals tend to boil the water for tea and coffee and use bottled water for drinking. Please bring 5 litres of bottled drinking water with you when you come.
We can have the fire lit for you on arrival. Solid fuel for the fires is supplied.
Cooking is by bottled gas and will sometimes need replacing. Water filters also need attention from time to time. The neighbours Martina and Jack are available to help if you run into any problems.

Summary: We had a wonderful experience in Inverin at Seannadh Phéistín. The cottage(s) had everything we needed, lots of beds including fold out beds to accommodate all of us (7). The kitchen is equipped with cooking equipment, an excellent gas oven, and generous fridge and freezer. In each house there is an excellent log/turf burner, with plentiful supplies from Martina and Jack at very low cost if needed. We did not need to use the heating as on cold nights the burner heated the house. Both bathrooms have showers, one is electric and the other heated by an immersion heater - takes less than 30 minutes to heat up. Martina who lives nearby is on hand to help, I injured my hand on a mountain and Rory the host let her know, and she checked I was ok - over the two weeks she brought eggs and turf, extra bedding and towels when needed. The location is stunning, the walks in the Slí Gaoitheach (Windy way - up by the wind farm) are beautiful. Even walk up the hill opposite the house and there are incredible views. Host left effective midge spray, kind to the skin - much appreciated. Wildlife excellent, we saw pine martens, took the ferry to Inismór had a brilliant day there and a few days watching sunsets on the exquisite Coral beach. Visited Leenan, Diamond Hill in the Connemara National Park (where I fell but only because I was scrambling off the path to pick up a quartz stone out of my reach - it's very safe). Food: the Chinese restaurant in Carraroe serve easily the best Chinese takeaway ever. Would recommend Pota - a brilliant cafe which serves fantastic food - recommend the potted crab. But local food in the supermarkets is superb - they have a resident butcher who gave recipe advice as well as great value, high quality meat. Found Louise Browne's Living Ginger workshop - close by, beautiful pottery, reasonably priced, bought lots! Ouchterard close by an Standún the original Aran sweater shop has a branch there, looks small on the outside but inside has a great range, again, we shopped both there and in the larger store in Spiddal - also the craft village there - bought paintings, more pottery and jewellery - Will definitely re-book for all of the above. Many many thanks Rory and Martina. Holiday of a lifetime.

Summary: We were very disappointed and annoyed to arrive to an uncleaned property, with dusty surfaces, bad smells, unaired rooms and bags and jars of leftover foods out of date since 2012-2015 - left for us to clear away in the barn. Old, falling apart rugs, cushions, and some plastic trinkets, dusty books all around in the main house, ancient utensils to cook with, uncovered kitchen bin, fingertips on glass doors, uncleaned windows.... quite shocking, especially in Covid times. Spent hours cleaning on arrival. The bathrooms are new and quite nice but not a sanitizer in site, no hand-wash or soaps provided. Old towels and somebody else’s old bed linen. To top it all, we discovered on the last morning that some of us have been sleeping on pillows infested with with black mould. My feedback was dismissed as a complaint about comfort levels, and I was reassured that my “feedback is much appreciated”. This is about bad hygiene and decency. The surroundings are very beautiful and wild, it is a truly unique place so it felt even more like such a missed opportunity to get the accommodations right, with cleaning them up - and out- properly and with care. It is very isolated - which is a good thing - but plan at least 25 -30 minutes on the tiny mountain roads to reach a village or shop in each direction. The water is fine but not drinkable and we were not supplied by even a single bottle of drinking water on arrival, so I advise to bring your own from the start. The beauty of Connemara saved the holiday for us.

Summary: The property is comfortable with everything we needed and the two kitchens are well-stocked with cooking utensils. The host provided great local advice and we enjoyed the area very much. The property is remote and quiet while being in easy reach of all sorts of fun things to do. I would certainly stay here again.

Summary: The house is located in a picturesque place surrounded by trees and loads of greenery. We absolutely loved the house and surroundings. Very peaceful and relaxing stay. The house was clean and very well supplied with everything you may need. It's a bit of a drive to the closest shop or beach but what a drive it is! Absolutely amazing views all around. Highly recommended 👌would happily go back, thank you.
