Villa Roland is a stone house of 125 m2 completely restored, located in the Beaune region, in the town of Chagny, 15 minutes by car and 10 minutes by train from the magnificent medieval town of Beaune.
The house is completely independent and located at the bottom of our property consisting of a bourgeois house and this rental on 2500 m2 of wooded and enclosed land. Secure and quiet, the cottage is surrounded by greenery (around 1000 m2 allocated to the cottage), decorated with several terraces, whether covered or not, and a carport.
Villa Roland is entirely on one level and consists of two bedrooms of 12 m2 each which can accommodate up to 5 people (1 bed of 200 by 160 in bedroom 1, 1 bed of 190 by 140 and a bed of 190 by 90 in bedroom 2), a bathroom of 9 m2 with a very large walk-in shower of 3 m2, a spacious toilet room, a laundry room, a main room of 55 m2 with sitting and dining area and kitchen area fully equipped, a 14 m2 veranda opening onto a 20 m2 terrace with electric blind. The house is fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay in Burgundy: bed and bathroom linen provided, tourist information, books, games, TV, music, WIFI internet ...
Some parts of the cottage are accessible for disabled (SDB, WC ...). Small animals are accepted.
Located 5 minutes walk from downtown Chagny, the cottage allows you to both enjoy the quiet of the countryside and the amenities of the city (access to many shops, restaurants, municipal swimming pool, train station nearby).
Chagny is calm and surrounded by the most prestigious vineyards of Burgundy: Chassagne Montrachet, Pommard, Meursault, Rully, Santenay (and its casino), Givry, Mercurey, it is a very central small town. Known for its large local Sunday market, Chagny is located between Beaune, the center of viticulture in the region, and Chalon-sur-Saône, the cradle of photography. This exceptional location allows easy access, by train or by car, on foot or by bike, to many tourist places: greenway (200 m), vineyards, cellars, castles, lakes, medieval villages, not forgetting Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, and Lyon, located just 1.5 hours from the cottage.

Summary: Christelle and Jose are very gracious hosts. We spent a month in their villa and highly recommend a stay. We enjoyed walking in the surrounding hills and along the canal. Summary: Easy walking distance to the village and a good place so base yourself and explore the Burgundy region. Whilst the train line is very nearby we visited in late June and had the shutters down and the fan on overnight so the noise was minimal. All the windows are also double glazed so it was not really an issue for us.

Summary: Great location to visit the Bourgogne vineyards. Nice town of Chagny with a large weekly, Sunday market. Great hosts on site, but unfortunately the gite is close to a very busy railway, with passenger and freight traffic throughout the day and evening.

Summary: This was a wonderful place, with plenty of room to spread out both inside and out. We really enjoyed being in a homelike environment after weeks in hotels. The property is situated close to rail tracks but we did not find that a deterrent, and rail traffic stopped in the evening anyway. Everything was clean, neat and nicely decorated and the boulangerie bakery is only a few steps away!!

Summary: This is a fully furnished 2 bedroom bungalow/Gite which has everything including a large internet tv, a PC workstation, WII sport system and a huge shower area with multi nozzle shower. It is situated on the edge of Chagny and very convenient for shops, supermarkets and restaurants and only 10 miles from Beaune. There is also a lot of outdoor seating space and garden area. Finally the hosts, Jose and Christelle are very charming and helpful.We increased our 5 day stay to 7 days as we loved the Gite and area so much. We highly recommend the property and would stay again at the drop of a hat. Thanks Christelle and Jose for a lovely stay.

Summary: We stayed 2 weeks in the cottage, in the hottest period in France since 1945. There is every convenience with plenty of space. Meals were taken on the terrace every day under the awning. It is very convenient for the excellent Sunday market in the town which is within 5 mins walk. We visited several of the chateaux and vineyard in the area, and the interesting small villages in the area. Due to the excessive heat extra fans would be appreciated, Christelle was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. It must be mentioned that you are quite close to the railway.

Summary: We had such a wonderful stay at Christelle and Jose's and loved basing our stay in Burgundy in Chagny. Christelle and Jose were wonderful hosts and made us and our two boys (10&12) feel welcome upon our arrival and during our 4 night stay. The accommodations are as described, clean, and felt big and roomy with plenty of space for us to spread out and not be on top of each other. Beds were comfortable. Bedroom/bathroom area has a door separating it from the living room. The kitchen had everything we needed. The walk in shower was a treat. Table outside is gets evening shade so we ate there several nights. Kids loved the WII and being able to play in the grass in the yard. The apartment is behind Chistelle and Jose's house, within the same fenced in yard but we felt like we had plenty of privacy. A nice boulangerie is less than 5 minutes walk. The house is just a couple of minutes walk to the train station so you don't need a car to stay here. There is noise from the busy train tracks nearby but we never felt it was too much. Chagny may be off the radar for many people looking to tour Burgundy but it worked really well for us. Chagny is a real town without lots of hotels, shops, or attractions. But the downtown is has lots of activity and small stores, is quite attractive, has many cafe's, plenty of good restaurants, and a great Sunday market. We found some of the small really beautiful towns in Burgundy to be deathly silent with little activity. And Beaune is a little too busy for us with many of hotels and tourist buses. Chagny is a really well balanced town in a convenient location. We rented bikes from the very friendly tourist office in town - only a 10 minute walk away. Chistelle and Jose's place is right across the street from the canal bike paths and a 15 minute bike ride to Santenay and the bike ride through the vineyards that extends all the way to Beaune. We also drove several days to the natural pool in Beaune, which our boys loved after a few hours of biking.

Summary: Villa Roland is an ideal base from which to explore Burgundy, whether by car, train, bike or canal boat: the railway station is only 150 yards away, the Canal du Centre with its bike paths a similar distance, and you can hire bikes from the Office de Tourisme. The villa has excellent accommodation with a modern and spacious bathroom and an attractive garden. José, Christelle and their family are attentive hosts who speak English and for whom nothing is too much trouble. As a result, we have stayed with them for two years running and hope to do so again. Chagny has at least four outstanding restaurants - including one of France’s gastronomic temples, the 3 Michelin star Lameloise - and more than a dozen other interesting places at which to eat. Thoroughly recommended, particularly if you don’t mind the rumble of trains in the background.
