Summary: The Gite is about 1.5 hours from Zurich airport by car. Ungersheim is a quaint small town. there are 2 boulangeries and there is a farmers' market. Using GPS we did find the town and we drove past the residence. When we retraced our steps, our hostess was out there waving at us. She showed us how to operate the keycode locks. she showed us around the unit. The unit is spacious and has all the appliances. She invited us up to their place for a beer or wine for a chat. We met her husband . We had a pleasant chat and found out we were the first Americans to stay. The unit we rented was decorated very nicely for the holidays. We liked that she took the time to do that. You are about 30 minutes from Colmar and very close to Mulhouse and Equisheim. We liked that our host was concerned about her guest's welfare. The following is a heads up for people who do not normally drive in France. There is a driving law call Prioritie a Droite. If that is in affect you need to yield to any vehicle entering the road from your right. Normally there are signs indicating this. All in all we would stay here again

Summary: My wife and I are Canadians who have been fortunate to come to Europe for independent self planned cycling vacations for over 22 years. In this period of time we have stayed in over 100 holiday rentals in 9 European countries. Our 11 day stay in Ungersheim was our third time to Alsace... 2007, 2016 and now in 2019. The hard working Girardin familie exemplify the spirit of Alsace....incredibly welcoming and engaging. They sincerely want to learn about the travellers who are so fortunate to find their gorgeous renovated farm house gite. In all of our 22 years of coming to Europe no one has made us more welcome and tried so hard. The gite is in the centre of little 2,200 person Ungersheim. It is across the street from an Artisan bakery and around the corner from a beautiful town hall. Across the other street there is a farm direct vendor where meat, eggs etc. can be purchased farm fresh....what more do you want? :) In nearby Ensisheim all other services exist. A key advantage of Ungersheim is that it is an authentic Alsatian village...very well looked after but off of the tourist track..This is always a strategically sweet spot in Euro travel planning for North Americans......the best of both worlds.......authentic with services. Many Alsatian villages on the wine route are over run with selfie stick tourists...eg. Ribeauville and Riquewihr. Kayersberg snd Eguisheim are a delight and very close by car. The gite is fully equipped, very comfortable and incredibly quiet...... a rarity in Euro holiday rentals. Proximity to Mulhouse means you can go to the astounding Cite de l’Automobile museum. Schlumpf collection and the Textile museum. As well in nearby Weil am Rhein Germany there is the remarkable Vitra Haus design museum......beautiful modern design ensembles for the home and the centre for the famous Eames chairs. For cyclistes Alsace is phenomenal. Eurovelo routes 5, 6, and 15 all pass through here. Famous Tour de France climbs in le Vosges Mountains are at your doorstep. Long before les Alpes and Pyrenees the Vosges were the first mountains to be climbed in 1905....such history as well as the very humbling world wars fought right here......lots of history. This gite has it all.......cycling infrastructure, world famous wine towns, astounding museums and a phenomenal family who ensure your stay is to a high standard. Summary: We would definitely recommend this property - it was beautifully clean and felt very spacious. Well equipped without feeling cluttered. The property is well located with things to do in the immediate area and lots more things just a short drive away. One week did not feel long enough and we did not want to leave. The owner was also very nice 👍
