3 Cottage Rd was built in the late 1890's and through much renovation and restoration, continues to maintain the feeling of what it was like to live at the beach in another time - all within easy access to NYC via high speed commuter ferry, local trains or the nearby bus route.
At the turn of the century the town of Monmouth Beach was a summer retreat for many prominent families from the New York and Philadelphia areas.
Although it has now become a year round community, Monmouth Beach continues to attract summer vacationers who enjoy the peace and quiet of living in a small beach town setting.
Although the peace and quiet of our town was interrupted by the recent Hurricane Sandy Storm, our century old home turned out to be an example of why new things are not always better. Like most of the turn of the century homes along Ocean Ave, 3 Cottage Rd came through the storm beautifully.
On the first floor a new fully equipped kitchen has been renovated and updated for indoor and outdoor entertaining. The large living room, dining and reading rooms complete the downstairs part of the rental and all have 10' ceilings.
The second floor includes a large master bedroom suite, guest bedroom with french doors that lead to widow's walk and beautiful views of the neighborhood and the Atlantic Ocean. This upper floor also has full bath and separate laundry room with washer/dryer and plenty of storage for linens, etc.

Summary: The rental is more beautiful than its photos. Very comfortable and well designed. The beach is truly at the end of the block. Going back again next year!

Summary: Two summers ago, we were lucky to run into this listing. Once we found it, we contacted the owners, and were able to secure a lease for the summer. It was the best rental we could have had - we loved our stay! The owners are wonderful, warm, and helpful; the home is beautiful and comfortable. The kitchen is perfect for cooking meals - although we also took advantage of the grill that they owners had. The property is incredibly close to the ocean (which our children loved) which made going to the beach a pleasure, since we could go for an hour without thinking about it. Of course, on those days where the kids didn't want to go to the beach, they were able to play in the big grassy yard. And, if this were not enough, the property is located in a great small town close to lots of local attractions from Sandy Hook to Jenksinson's Boardwalk. And of course, another plus is this property is just an hour away from NY by car or boat! We can't recommend the place enough; it was an amazing experience.

Summary: My husband and I along with our son (under 1) stayed here for a long period while our home was being renovated nearby. The home itself is one of the few original beach homes in town dating back to the early 1900s and still has its beach house charm with modern conveniences. The layout is great and very spacious, unlike the tight city living that we were used to. With two floors, you have everything you need including chef's kitchen (my husband is the cook in our house and appreciated this), laundry room and reading room (although we used this as a playroom). The photos don’t do it justice, but the accommodations were great. There was an area for us to BBQ, ride our bikes into town, to the local park or even to the marina nearby to see the boats and ducks or (for mom and dad) enjoy happy hour with live music during sunset at the Channel Club tiki bar :). Best of all, we could walk across the street to our own private beach on the warmer days without having to fight crowds or search for a parking spot. For those who don’t know of Monmouth Beach, it is a quaint seashore town only a short ferry ride from Manhattan. There is plenty to do for all ages nearby. For us, it was a great place to escape the city and especially for those with kids who enjoy being outdoors! I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Summary: This house rental is a real gem. What makes it special is that the owners have lived in the town for over 35 years and they have made the house a home. The garden is beautiful, there is an area to have bbqs, and there is a private beach across the street prefect for family. The location is ideal close enough to the beach and shopping and but still very private. The owners make you feel settled in no time, while leave you to enjoy the seashore escape. Feels like a true seashore vacation. We have rented the house many times with our family and children and enjoy the small town charm while love being able to get into NYC by the ferry only 1 hour away. We look forward to going back very soon!
