Hello! Welcome to Shell Cottage in beautiful Salvo on Hatteras Island. Thank you for your interest. We are located on a quiet street and just 390 feet from the beach access and a few minutes’ drive to a beach day-use park on the sound side. Traditional beach box bungalow. Come and enjoy a cozy and comfortable getaway vacation! This classic beach bungalow is clean, fresh, and comfortable. Great getaway for a couple or small family, kite boarder, and surfers. Have a great, relaxing time at our beautiful beach, never crowded with its golden sands. Enjoy a great day of surf fishing or sunbathing and come out at night with your flashlights and go ghost crab hunting. The roads are quiet and safe to walk or ride your bike to the day-use park. Get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Relax on the deck at night and watch the sky full of stars, so close you feel like you could touch them, or in the screened porch while enjoying your barbeque from the charcoal grill provided. Swim, fish, surf or kiteboard, windsurf, kayak or paddleboard on sound side. Salvo day-use park is perfect for a family with little ones where the water is shallow and warm. Rinse off in the outside shower! General store within walking distance. Lots of places to rent bikes, boards, kayaks, fishing gear, all close by. Whether you are looking for adventure or just wanting to chill on the beach, cast your worries aside and come enjoy a simple, fun, and relaxing vacation.
(Colony Dr. is a very quiet beach road, no traffic except for residents who live or vacation in Hatteras Colony ). The frequent visits from the ice cream and Kona Ice trucks are a plus!

Summary: Loved everything about the beach house. I do wish checkout was a little later. Would move it back 30 min to an hr at least. 10 am is a little early when you would like to grab breakfast and pack up all your gear without feeling rushed, especially if you are a fisherman and have a lot of tackle, coolers and other things to pack before departure.Great overall expirience. Love the rates as well. I appreciate the opportunity to have a place to stay as a recreational fisherman with my family. This is something that has become very difficult as a sportsman in NC, finding an affordable place to stay and also close to access to fishing spots, another thing we have lost to commercialization on many NC beaches, many of these locations we used to fish have become gated communities that only the very wealthy can enjoy. Very convienient to all needs. Thank you to the owner for offering a nice place to stay and I hope I get the opportunity to return one day. That is as long as the rates dont increase too much over time. There is a lot of young couples and families that need an escape from the busy life several of us live that many cant take due to cost of living challenges but this was just right for our family. Again, a very big thank you to the owner for making our dreams come true . 5 STARS!

Summary: We loved our time at the cozy cabin in Salvo. The host was informative and friendly answering all our questions before hand. The place was just as it was pictured and close to the beach. It was the perfect getaway for my family on our Spring Break! We can’t wait to come back to the Outer Banks!

Summary: 3* experience which could easily have been a 5* experience. Little things like sheets not being on the beds, no coffee or hand soap or washcloths provided, the A/C spewing black specks over the dining table all week, the TV remote not working and a screen door which requires you to either lock everyone in or out added up to diminish our vacation a fair amount. The cabin and its surroundings were fine. Short walk to the beach on the Atlantic side, although with the high wind we found we much preferred the Sound side of the island. We bought and left hand soap, washcloths, AAA batteries, coffee, and canisters for the coffee so hopefully future guests will have a better experience. It also got cold at night and there were no extra blankets - a couple not-really blankets were left in the closet. That would have been nice.

Summary: Overall we had a very pleasant experience. Super quick walk to the beach, great outdoor shower and porch to sip our morning coffee on. Beds were very comfortable and kitchen had all the amenities needed for our stay. Loved the charcoal grill as well. AC unit worked very well and kept the home very comfortable during our week. Nice paths in the town to ride bikes or go for runs. Owner left a nice welcome bag with some toiletries as well as a nice information book for our stay. Hope to come back again in the future!

Summary: We had an amazing stay at the cozy cottage! Walk to the beach was simple and short! The cottage was absolutely beautiful, including the ocean. Traci was also easy to talk to and responds fast! We will be back!
