Positive: Fabulous location (all single track roads, so be prepared!), with both Dartmoor and the coast within easy distance. Very spacious property, where we enjoyed the games, but spent most time in the gorgeous kitchen, sat at the table staring out the window watching the weather go by! The resident Doberman dogs were a great addition to our stay, got on well with our spaniel, and were a great welcoming committee each time we arrived home. Magnus is a lovely host, although has clearly had some horrendous guests, so can come across like a strict headmaster to begin with!

Negative: Not really a dislike, but something to note. I’m a light sleeper and slept in the walk through bedroom above where the dogs sleep, so every time they barked at something (must be some animal that goes past about 3am), it would wake me up. My son in the main bedroom didn’t hear a thing…

The property is beautifully tucked into a quiet, hilly area, offering peaceful surroundings and scenic views that make for a perfect countryside escape. The accommodation is impressively spacious and well-equipped for a family vacation. The kitchen had everything we needed—including utensils, condiments, and essentials like milk, bread, and eggs. While these weren’t a surprise, they were a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture that added to the welcoming feel. Inside, the property features a TV and a small library, along with games like table pool and indoor soccer, which kept both kids and adults entertained throughout the stay. The friendly dogs, Henry and Sarah, were a joy to be around—especially for me and our eldest, who loved playing with them. The grounds include a nice garden with a fountain, lovely orchard, ample parking space, and stables, all adding to the charm of the place. Jean, the caretaker, was punctual and welcoming during check-in, giving us a helpful walkthrough of the key features. Magnus, although away during our visit, had already provided detailed information and was available via chat whenever needed. We also had the chance to meet Zara, Jean’s granddaughter. She was friendly and shared some lovely insights about the horses, which added a personal touch to our stay. Jean was kind enough to join us for a photo at checkout, which was a sweet gesture that capped off our visit beautifully. Overall, it was a truly memorable experience, and we’d love to return whenever we think of Devon or the east of Cornwall. Highly recommended for families looking for a peaceful, well-equipped countryside retreat!

Positive: Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet Magnus. However, on arrival, we were met by the lovely Jean (neighbour) and resident Dobbies Henry and Sara. Jean was very helpful throughout our stay. Both Henry and Sara have the most loveliest of temperaments, and my children loved playing with them. The holiday let felt like a home from home. Magnus has thought of everything. The pool table was a big hit!! Comfortable beds and the shower were a delight! Lovely extra touch of fresh eggs, milk, and sour dough bread on arrival. The grounds are beautiful, we will miss our morning visit to see the horses. Lots of places to visit locally. Tavistock itself has lots of places to eat. I would recommend the Devon Country Paradise to anyone. 5 stars 🌟
