Positive: Serge and Peter were incredible hosts. Extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The lodge we stayed in was perfect too. You really don't want for anything here! Special mention, too, to the breakfasts which are sublime. We also really enjoyed meeting George, Edgar, Leon and the chickens. Domaine des Monges is a veritable paradise.

Negative: If we had to be super picky it would be simply that it would be nice to have ample supplies in the lodge for the duration of our stay. We found ourselves running low (or out) of toilet paper, dish soap and hand soap. Of course, we could have asked for more anytime, but to have it to hand from the beginning would save everyone time! Really tiny nitpick that didn't detract from the experience at all.

Positive: On the banks of the Dordogne River, the place is lovely inside and out - from the flowering gardens and pool area to the manoir decorated with eclectic art and furnishings from everywhere. Lavish but comfortable and welcoming. We stayed in a spacious, wonderful room we didn't want to leave! Our dream hosts, Serge and Peter, spoiled us with a delicious and copius breakfast buffet and great recommendations for restaurants, sights, and activities. We're already planning our next stay at Domaine des Monges! A very special place.

Negative: Actually part of the appeal, the Domaine is rather secluded and you do need a car.

Positive: Serge and Peter were so very welcoming. We also can’t leave out dear George. Beautiful spacious bedroom with views over the garden. Peaceful location. Delicious breakfast with home made jams, fresh pastries, bread, yoghurt and fresh fruit with cooked eggs (from their hens) mushrooms and bacon. Highly recommend.

Negative: A longer stay! We had just two nights there!

Positive: We stayed at this stunning property for 4 nights, an absolute highlight of our month vacation in Europe. We stayed in lovely accommodation everywhere we visited but this really is worth reviewing. We wanted to stay in rural Bordeaux prior to busy Paris. We can’t thank our hosts Serge & Peter enough for going above & beyond as hosts. Every inch of their house & gardens are exquisite & so tastefully & thoughtfully decorated. The beautiful Dordogne river is at the bottom of their garden, where enjoyed a long picnic with local cheese & wine.Our room was huge & opulent to say the least , a very welcome change to hotel rooms which can be tiny. Their breakfasts were deliciously sumptuous & served with a lot of love. Largely sauced from their garden & chickens . Lovely fresh eggs done many ways. They grow lovely fruit & make gorgeous jam. Special mention , Grand Marnier crepes .Peter & Serge were extremely helpful with great tips of local restaurants , chateaus, wineries . It is very close to St Emilion which is a must to visit. They booked restaurants for us & even suggested a private terrace to have quiet glass of wine in St Emilion. A lasting memory . Many thanks to two lovely & humble human beings & George & the goats.

Positive: A gorgeous property that was idyllic in every way. We stayed in the lodge and there was more than enough space, it really did exceed expectations. Everywhere was very well kept and we couldn’t have asked for more. Breakfast was sublime every day and our hosts Serge and Peter were fantastic, not to forget George!

Positive: Breakfast was excellent, especially the fresh eggs and omelettes, expertly cooked by Peter every day. Being able to eat either in the beautiful garden setting or the dining room within the main house was a great setting. We stayed in the Apartment with Terrace room which is lovely, a great space, very clean and with a comfy bed.

Summary: Wonderful stay with amazing hosts, Peter and Serge are what make Domaine des Monges really special!
