Positive: Doola is in a good location, only a short drive from the entrance to the park so you don’t have to get up even earlier when you do a morning safari. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We liked being on the edge of the river, and spotted some kingfishers and other birds from the restaurant.
Negative: The service in the restaurant was slow. We were the only ones in there for lunch one day, and it took over 20 minutes to get a coffee. But when the food did come, it was very tasty so just have to exercise some patience.

Positive: This hotel was really a WOW-experience and great ending of our tour around Sri Lanka. We had originally booked just one night for our family, but we got to this hotel and we just thought that it was so good that we decided to cancel the booking we had made and extended the stay in Doola River Edge. Hence if became our last roundtrip night and a good ending of the tour. Rooms are spacious, clean, nice design and big bathrooms. Common areas such as restaurant and pool area and park are also very nicely maintained and clean. Service is outstanding! Our son had his birthday and the manager said they could order a cake for us and I am glad we ask for this. The cake was fantastic as were the breakfast and dinner that we enjoyed in the hotel. Pool towels were handed out to us as soon as we showed up at the pool, this, the cake, breakfast boxes for safari, are just some examples of the good level of service we got at Doola River Edge. The hotel is said to have 3 stars, I would like to give it 5 stars. It is smaller than normally 5-star hotels and as such it cannot have all the facilities of a 5-star hotel, but we were all very happy with our stay and the service they provided. It was by far the best hotel stay during our round trip in Sri Lanka.

Positive: The location is good for the national park. The childs pool is nice and warm and the playground is a nice addition.
Negative: We experienced many similar things that other people have written about. We found the staff very awkward and uncomfortable to engage with. There also seems to be a high number of managers not really doing much. The flooring around the pool got excruciatingly hot and is very slippy when wet. The biggest issue we had when there was that there was a large group of 20 or so men and women that had booked out the rooms (two rooms were taken up by ourselves and one other family). They dominated the hotel, restaurant, pool and playground, which they were entitled to do as they had booked so much of the accommodation but we felt we should have been contacted beforehand to be warned and we would have made other arrangements. The group brought their own sound system and threw a party that went on past midnight (again fine, but we were getting up at 5am to go on our national park tour, which I'm sure many people would do if they are staying here). After 11pm, there were only a couple of people left at the party and we saw one of the management team with them and did not tell them to turn the music off. On day two, the large group left and the hotel was more relaxing. There are street dogs that enter the grounds. We thought one of them was the hotel's dog as it approached us by the pool. After it moved away from the pool and out of sight in the grounds we heard two dogs fighting and 5 minutes later three staff members were dragging a chained dog into a car and drove off. We asked what had happened and were told "not to worry" with no other information.

Positive: Great overall experience. By far the most well run place we stayed. Facilities room all worked well, were clean and looked after. Being able to have food on balcony is a great touch. Good selection of items on A la carte menu and well priced considering location and captive audience. Good few vegan options. They also let me bake a cake for my daughters birthday in their kitchen which was very much appreciated.
Negative: Lack of a fridge in the room was only downside. Play area and pool could do with more shade when trees grow taller
