4 Bedroom Cottage in Dunwich

Short breaks available outside July / August / Christmas peak seasons. Changeover day normally Friday, especially for weekly bookings in peak season. The Old Post Office is 50 yards from The Ship Inn pub, & 2 minutes walk to the beach, the house is well equipped and is in an ideal location for walkers, cyclists, and close by for visiting RSPB Minsmere, Aldeburgh, Southwold, Thorpeness and other parts of this lovely area of Suffolk. The beautifully presented interior has wonderful character including brick fireplaces housing wood-burners in the lounge and back snug. The kitchen is equipped with a range of timber units with beech worktops and integrated appliances including an electric cooker with extractor, dishwasher, fridge and freezer. It is also equipped with Microwave, kettle, toaster etc... The principal bedrooms enjoy coastal views. The cottage is on 3 levels, the 4th bedroom is at the rear of the property above the snug and accessed via exposed wooden ladder style steps (as per picture) better suited to younger guests. The other 3 bedrooms are accessed via a narrow carpeted spiral stairwell. Bedding and personal hand and bath towels are provided.
Please note the house has steep spiral stairs not suitable for guests with mobility issues.
Dog's Welcome but we ask that they stay downstairs.
Normal Changeover over day Friday for weekly bookings in summer peak season.

Summary: Cottage is pretty and quirky with some lovely features in a super location. The cottage we feel would benefit from some updating in a few areas. It was a bit dusty and also a few cobwebs about. The kitchen needs attention. Fridge door does not close properly at the bottom and has a broken shelf. Kitchen units also looking their age. No oven gloves found which was not good when using oven. The door knob on kitchen door is loose. Bathrooms were ok and clean but water drains from bath due to plug which made it a little difficult to bath baby. The 2nd floor bedroom window has no stay so could not leave open and feel it would benefit from a handrail fitting on the stairs. Great views from this bedroom to Southwold thou. Overall a great location and wouldn't take much to make it perfect.

Summary: A warm, inviting accommodation with everything we needed for a long weekend. Seashore, pub/restaurant for outs and fantastic dining room for nights in with a glass of wine and group roast dinner cooking.Brilliant little home from home.

Summary: The old Post Office in Dunwich is a really charming holiday cottage , a cosy yet spacious getaway for an extended family hols. We absolutely loved the cottage & local area steeped in history. Lovely local walks, no need to drive anywhere for a few days! Lovely family meals in the sunny dining room. Views out across the marshes to the sea. Roger is a very responsive host, and made us very welcome.

Summary: Lovely cottage, all equipped with everything you would need. Very cosy and warm, giving you time to relax. The Ship pub is 1 minute down the road serving excellent food. Dunwich beach and cafe is a short walk away. Good location for hiking and short journey to visit Southwold and Aldeburgh.

Summary: We enjoyed our short stay at the Old Post Office which was a perfect base for coastal and forest walks with our dog. The cottage is characterful, quirky and comfortable with everything you need for a relaxing break. We used to live in an old fishing cottage and quickly remembered that there is a knack to getting up and down the narrow twisting stairs! The Ship Inn is dog friendly, although it's best to book in the evening as staff shortages limited the number of tables. We would love to return to the Old Post Office for more walking and birdwatching in the spring. The coastal views are amazing and on a clear night stargazing on the beach is a must.
