Summary: I have stayed at this hotel for 15 years. It was once my favorite hotel in China. In the past several years it has declined precipitously. The bathrooms smell of mildew or, on my previous stay, of sewage. The wheel on the one chair at the desk was broken. The plastic seam on the shower door fell off. After using the restroom in the VIP business lounge (which no longer serves a hot food buffet) I was literally locked into the restroom alcove from the outside and had to bang on the door until someone came to let me out. When I complained about these issues to the new GM Pieter Ham, he offered me a “preferential rate” on my next stay which was $25 dollars higher than the Expedia rate for the same room. It breaks my heart to see how such a wonderful hotel can be so poorly run after so many years of treating me like the loyal guest I am.
