Summary: A nice - even elegant - home in a town that once had or supported thriving steel-related industries. The entire Pittsburgh area (Monessen is a little over 20 miles south of Pittsburgh) is recovering from a massive change in the local economy. Once a gritty steel-making region, it is being reinvented as a technology hub. The most impressive positive changes are happening in Pittsburgh and some of the closer towns. It’s happening a little slower further out in areas like Monessen. With that perspective, this house is a good place to host a family or group of friends. The neighborhood is rough in spots (some abandon homes), but the neighbors are friendly. The house could use some attention is a few areas (the second floor shower door didn’t close completely and hot water to the upstairs tub wasn’t working), but it was comfortable for my family. The owner/manager was very kind. I spoke with her on the phone once while in the house and via e-mail and both before and after. She promptly shipped an item back to us that was accidentally left behind. A more complete inventory of things like kitchen appliances, place settings, and supplies would nice to have readily available (since we were hosting a graduation celebration, we brought many of our own supplies and cookware to be safe), and a more complete set of “helpful hints” would be helpful - like where there are extra trash bags, light bulbs, and paper products such as paper towels, napkins, and toilet paper. All-in-all we had a pleasant celebration of my daughter’s graduation from college.

Summary: I was blown away with the detailed restoration of this early 1900's home. Jewel was extremely helpful. I had a last minute project in the area, and was doubtful that I would be able to pull off a rental, but she worked diligently to get myself and 6 others in the next day. We couldn't have been happier with the property.

Summary: We stayed at McKee Manor for 9 nights. I loved the decor and all the original wood work, floors, fixtures, five fireplaces It is just beautiful. It's high on the hill and the view from the sun porch is spectacular. I can't wait to see it in the fall when the trees turn colors. If you like to cook as I do, the kitchen is a cooks dream, I loved the gas range an fridge and the kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly need. We were in town for a graduation party and I did a lot of baking. With the Mon-Fayette Expressway we were in Pittsburgh for a Pirate game in 30 minutes. The kids loved playing on the back deck and there's a BBQ for grilling! Why stay in a Hotel.

Summary: Every time I come to the Monessen / Pittsburgh PA area (which is 3-4 times/year), my family & I stay at McKee Manor. Why stay in a hotel if we can truly relax and enjoy such a lovely home instead? I would recommend that you purchase groceries and plan to stay IN to totally enjoy your stay. Although the pictures that are posted are lovely, McKee Manor is actually more lovely in person. There is plenty of room to host an event here, and it is also elegantly decorated inside. Our friends & relatives enjoy stopping by & hanging out with us here when we are in the area. We enjoyed sitting out back in the evening the last time we visited - the deck was beautifully decorated & it was very lovely out back. McKee Manor is clean & well maintained. Please note that the Pittsburgh area has a lot of hills, and it may be necessary to climbs stairs to get inside some of the homes here, including McKee Manor. But it is very good exercise!
