2 Bedroom House in Escalante

Completed in 2025, the SaltBrush Casita is an art-filled retreat tucked beneath cliffs less than a half mile from the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Enjoy comfort, breathtaking scenery, and solitude within a five-minute drive to Escalante town.
Completed in 2025 and blending with the native landscape, the Casita is built around a great room with soaring 18-foot ceiling. The plush sofa sleeper and comfortable armchairs are arranged around enormous windows framing the National Monument and the red cliffs of Boulder Mountain.
The full kitchen is stocked with everything you’ll need to prepare meals when not dining out. Enjoy the comfort of home with quartz counters, fridge, dining table, and stainless steel appliances, including a range, microwave, and dishwasher. We also provide a Nespresso machine with coffee pods, tea kettle and tea, French press, toaster, cutlery, cooking utensils, stainless steel cookware, and barbecue tools. Spices, oils, vinegars, and sugar are in the cupboard. We even provide snacks and cold beverages. Dine on stoneware made by Brett, the owner and the Escalante town potter who has a studio on the property.
A spiral staircase takes you to the open loft overlooking the great room. With a full-height ceiling and its own bank of huge windows, the loft provides panoramic views of the Monument and our famous high-desert landscape. Sleep beneath soft cotton sheets in the comfortable queen bed. There’s also a closet for your clothing and gear.
On the main floor, the bedroom has a cozy queen bed with comfortable cotton bedding, its own heat and air conditioning, and a designer ceiling fan overhead. Wake up to the morning sun climbing the cliffs that rise directly behind the house. There are plenty of hooks to hang your clothes and gear.
The full bathroom is a great place to clean up after a day exploring. The bathroom has a bathtub, shower, Toto bidet, plush cotton towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, hair dryer, full-size washer and dryer, and laundry detergent.
In the warmer months, enjoy the private outdoor shower beneath the cliffs. With hot and cold water, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and designer lighting, shower al fresco while enjoying the amazing views of the landscape or nighttime sky.
The shaded patio is nestled next to giant boulders at the base of the cliffs. Relax in the Adirondack chairs and enjoy the warmth of the hammered-steel propane fire pit while dinner cooks on the Weber grill.
The SaltBrush Casita is a 740 square-foot retreat with heat, air conditioning, WIFI, HD smart TV, ceiling fans, key pad for self check-in, and a 240 volt power outlet (NEMA 14-50R) for charging an electric vehicle. The queen sleeper sofa in the great room can accommodate a fifth guest.Outside the front door there is a Nest doorbell that can record external audio/video and be used to communicate.
Utah has the highest concentration of certified International Dark Sky Parks and Communities in the world. Whether you’re a stargazer or night-sky photographer, SaltBrush Casita is the ideal place to experience the starscape. During the day, explore our eight acres, which include a small slot canyon and an abundance of wild flowers and grasses, Utah Juniper, piñon, and other native flora.
Perfectly situated, the SaltBrush Casita is the ideal base for your adventure. With colors transitioning through yellows, oranges, and reds, the Escalante area has some of the most scenic, unique, and beautiful landscape in the world. Away from the huge crowds, its slot canyons and sandstone cliffs often feel undiscovered.
Hike from the front door or take a short walk to see ancestral puebloan structures. The Grand Staircase-Escalante Visitor Center is less than five miles away, as is the Petrified Forest State Park. We’re also close to scenic Highway 12, designated one of the country’s All American Roads. It stretches among Bryce Canyon National Park, Kodachrome Basin, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Escalante, Boulder, Dixie National Forest, and Capitol Reef National Park. If you’re visiting the Magnificent Five, Escalante is a great basecamp. And if you want a change from the sculpted desert landscape, drive or cycle from the Casita to the top of Boulder Mountain, which is just 13 miles away. You will be greeted by pine forests, cool air, and small lakes where you can birdwatch or fly fish.
While pets aren’t allowed, our jackrabbits and resident Kit Fox are welcome, provided they stay off the furniture.

Summary: My stay here was INCREDIBLE! Honestly wish I could give it more than 5 stars. I was lucky to get out of town and head to Escalante with a friend. The casita is gorgeous and was spotless upon arrival. We cooked a couple times, having the full kitchen was a life saver. The host was really friendly and responsive! We had such an amazing time. Will definitely recommend this to friends/family and would stay here again. Cannot recommend enough!

Summary: Clean, well-furnished/equipped modern house in a stunning location. The property description is perfectly accurate - the casita is relatively compact at 740 sq ft., and the second bedroom is a loft overlooking the main living area. And it's gorgeous, with big picture windows, very comfortable furniture and bedding, excellent wifi and air-conditioning, and very functional kitchen and bathroom. It worked well for our group of 3 friends, and would be ideal for a family or one or two couples. Snacks and drinks were thoughtfully provided for our stay, and Brett's artistic touches, including his own stoneware, create a wonderful ambience to the place. If you are looking for "isolated but not remote" this is the ideal place - seemingly in the middle of nowhere but just 10 minutes from the coffee shops and restaurants of Escalante, and within relatively easy reach of the amazing scenery Bryce Canyon NP, Kodachrome Basin State Park, Capitol Reef NP, and the "Hole in the Rock" road. We loved our stay!

Summary: Beautiful property, incredible hosts, great views, midpoint to two National Parks and surrounded by just a small portion of the breathtaking Grand Staircase/Escalante BLM Monument. Unexpectedly had to change plans last minute and glad we found this beautiful place. The hosts captured everything that made the space feel like home. The tasteful decor humbly allows the breathtaking views remain the focal point.

Summary: It's absolutely stunning. The house is beautiful, clean, and feels so luxurious. Amenities are so nice and it felt so homey and comfortable. It's close to town so it's convenient, but far enough out that you feel secluded. Absolutely loved it, will definitely come again!

Summary: The house was lovely and Brett's dishes/pottery were great. If you get the chance to go to Devil's Garden, don't let the gravel road deter you.And when you get back to the house you can relax until it gets dark. You will see as many stars as you have likely ever seen.

Summary: This is a great property in a great area. It is the tiniest bit out of town so you can have a quiet, secluded stay but close enough to town to get anything you need or stay active and explore the many natural features nearby. The host doesn't cut costs for comfort and provides things like good quality shampoo/conditioner and bug spray. Loved it!

Summary: My wife and I were looking for a beautiful, quiet place to stay at while we explored the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and the Escalante Casita was perfect. The home has all the modern amenities you would expect and even a few you wouldn't. We appreciated the attention to detail the host put into it. The views are peaceful and expansive. It is minutes from Escalante and central to all of the sites we wanted to explore. The host is available, gracious and helpful. This place will not disappoint you. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely return when our busy lives allow.

Summary: The listing for the SaltBrush Casita describes it as a "Escalante Monument Casita with an Expansive View," but that doesn't begin to describe it. It's astonishingly beautiful there, both day and night. My husband is a night sky photographer, and he's never found a better location to shoot. The skies are gorgeously clear and nearly completely free from light pollution. The national monument and other nearby landscapes provide for dramatic photographic settings, of course, but thanks to its desert location, even the casita's back porch makes for a perfect spot to set up a tripod. (See below.)Brett was very knowledgeable, friendly, and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. 10/10 experience, day or night.

Summary: We had a wonderful stay at Brett's lovely property. The Casita was so clean and set up with many thoughtful touches. To name a few, Crocs of various sizes to wear indoors, snack bars for grab on a day for hiking, various of drinks in fridge all cool and nice, Ziploc bags, foil, full range of seasonings and a bag of ice in freezer. Brett left a hand written note and a hand made welcoming gift. It felt at home or even better. Our daughter loved sleeping in the loft, playing card games, and exploring the little slot canyon behind the Casita. We loved waking up to the beautiful view -- it was a perfect home base for exploring around Escalante. We can't wait until our next visit!
