Outstanding spacious holiday accommodation located just outside of the historic medieval village of Martis, Sardinia. Immersed deep in the countryside, yet close enough to the coast to enjoy our stunning beaches.
IL Granaio in Martis, Sardinia is an idyllic country barn/villa attached to an historic country house which is 35/40 minutes from the beautiful beaches of the north coast of Sardinia. Il Granaio is attached to the main house and is private & self contained. The villa has access to an orchard with an above ground pool. Price shown is for 3 persons. The open plan living space can accommodate 4 people. There are many acres to wander in and explore. The double bedroom is upstairs on the Mezzanine and there is also a kingsize four poster on the ground floor. Staircase up to the bathroom. A fold up single bed, cot and travel cot can be supplied. Il Granaio has a fully equipped kitchen. The owners Chris and Jill are english and have been resident in Sardinia for 15 years. They have a property in the village and sometimes reside in the main house. They maintain a very low profile but will also be there if you need any help or information. Outside there is a large ivy clad courtyard furnished with tables chairs for outside dining. There are seating and sunbathing spots dotted around the land. Down in the orchard is a welcoming above ground pool, ideal for those long hot summer days. Il Granaio has wonderful views of the village, San Pantaleo church and the stunning Monte Limbara mountains. Il Granaio - The Barn - was a used to house barley and feed for animals many years ago. In 2014 it was converted into a beautiful self contained & private dwelling with stunning grounds and many outside relaxing and dining areas. The studio is 12mt x 4mt very very spacious! Il Granaio opens up on to a large private ivy clad courtyard which is suitable for al-fresco dining and relaxing. There are a few visiting cats in the area, if you are not a cat lover just shoo them away and don't feed them, they will get the message!

Summary: We really enjoyed our stay , great house and surrounding, clean pool and spacious garden. All logistics are in the house incl mobile connectivity. Chris is near when you want but never un your aura. Very funny guy to Great surrounding and lot of culture around, super beaches on approx 45 min car distance . Taking our dog was not a problem for Chris nor the dog, house never gets to hot. Will come back Thanks and next time meet Jill to, she was on granny leave in London

Summary: We have spent a few wonderful days in Martis. The house is as described, we loved eating breakfast on the terrace and exploring the beaches at the north coast and the surroundings. You should know that there is (very) little water in the shower, but given the great drought in Sardinia, it did not bother us and we would have felt like alll inclusive guests who pile their plates overflowing while all around there are shortages, we would have wanted to shower endlessly. Sardinia is a great island and we respect the peculiarities. so we really recommend the house!

Summary: Our visit at Il Granaio was a very relaxing experience. Especially our kids enjoyed playing in the pool while we could read and relax in under the trees in the orchard. Eating fruits directly from the trees was another great opportunity we liked very much (especially the figs). The house is very nice with plenty of space for four people and well equipped with everything necessary for a good living. A nice surprise was that the fridge was not empty at our arrival - Chris gave us a comfortable start with self made lemon- and grapefruit-jam and some other basic goods, so we did not have to hurry to one of the two small supermarkets in Martis. Jill and Chris were great hosts, very friendly and helpful. Consider at least 40-45 minutes to get to the next beach, where you can enjoy the great Sardinian sea. If you like to stay away from mass tourism this can be easily achieved at some very nice beaches at the north shore.

Summary: We stayed at the barn for a week and still hadn't done everything we wanted to. This is such a wonderfully relaxing place and we will definitely visit again. The location is great in Martis with a little walk to the bars and shops in the village. The swimming pool and orchard are secluded and well equipped wuth seating, tables, sunloungers and hammocks. Chris brough us fruit and almonds from the orchard and flowers from the garden which were lovely surprises to me met with when we arrived back from walking. We would highly recommend Il Graniao to couples ir small families. Can't wait to visit again!

Summary: This property is spacious , airy and very well equipped. The owners are very friendly ,but unobtrusive despite being in adjoining property. This really is in a beautiful spot away from it all. If you want a holiday that is not noise and nightclubs and fellow tourists this is for you. It is quite rural and is surrounded by farmland . The village of Martis is only a short drive away , with local supermarket and a few cafes. Beaches are a fair drive away, and this is not a property to stay at , if you don’t hire a car. We found it quiet and tranquil. In retrospect a little too off the beaten track for us. This is not to say we didn’t enjoy the holiday. Chris and Jill were very welcoming, leaving little treats for us from the orchard. And a welcome pack to help us celebrate our wedding anniversary! A visitors book may be useful , so that fellow guests can recommend which restaurants, beaches and places of interest are worth visiting. Other than that we had a lovely time. Thank you Chris and Jill.

Summary: We had a wonderful week at Jill and Chris’s lovely property. They were fantastic hosts, there if we needed them (for a garlic clove, and a needle to remove a splinter!) but not imposing in any way. The location and setting was exactly what we were after - quiet, peaceful Sardinian countryside. And with the village of Martis just a few mins drive away we had a few bars, small supermarket and great pizzeria available to us. The property is very well equipped, kitchen is small but has everything you need to prepare simple meals. Beds were comfortable, we slept on the day bed and our daughter was up in the mezzanine bedroom. So much space around the property, large courtyard, fields with hammocks, and the pool was great too. Our daughter loved the inflatable unicorn! Pack the insect repellant, we had a few nibbles from mosquitos/gnats but may have been the time of year. It was a slightly longer drive to the beaches than we’d thought (average 40mins) and the windy roads take some getting used to - but the pay off is the peaceful location of this property.

Summary: We absolutely loved our stay with Chris and Jill who were charming and unobtrusive hosts. The property is very spacious and well appointed with a good kitchen, large living area and plenty of space outside to stretch out. It also has a large orchard where we could help ourselves to lots of fresh fruit and enjoy the decent sized above-ground pool. The property is located about a mile outside a small village amongst farmland about 30 minutes from Sassari and the coast. Being the only guests, we enjoyed absolute peace less for the gentle clanking of the sheep's bells in the neighbouring fields. We really appreciated the nice touches like the generous welcome pack of food and drink and the small gifts, such as dried figs and fresh eggs, left outside our door in the morning. All in all, it was a great experience to stay in a genuienly unspoilt part of Sardinia where we could completely unwind.

Summary: From the first minute on, we - Christian 54 and Andrea 63 - felt like home at this place. Jill and Chris were perfect hosts, friendly, helpful and on the other hand very discreet. In the heart of North-Sardinia we met openhearted people, visited breathtaking coasts, enjoyed calm beaches, impressive towns and villages and very good food and fruits. Coming back to Il Granaio we had very relaxing evenings with BBQ, cooking in a well equipped kitchen, jumping into the perfect maintained pool and listening to the number of voices very different birds. All in all we spent a really unforgettable time in the middle of nowhere and nevertheless so near to all the beautiful sea- and countrysides. We surely recommend this place and as well surely we will come back, wenn we will visit Sardinia the next time. Thanks to Jill an Chris for this very precious homestay far from home! Summary: I was there with my daughter for 8 days. what can i say ....it was a real great time there. The house was exactly that ,what i was looking for. a very silent place , without traffic noise and far away from mass tourism. in the house is to find everything you need for your holiday. Mister Johnson and his wife are very friendly people. it was a pleasure to learn to know them ...even just a little bit. they made for us 2times a very good menü for the evening and gave us some good tips. for sure i`ll come back again in a other period , when the island is green .My daughter was always happy to play with the cat TRUMPI , and she miss him already. I can advice that house for everyone . It would be a good choice to make holiday there. sorry for the unperfect english ... anyway i hope its to understand.

Summary: This converted barn and its facilities added much to our fabulous week on the interesting island of Sardinia. Owned by a British couple (Jill was away during our stay) it was useful to know there was support available if needed - they live in the house to which the barn is attached. After an informative introduction from Chris, he took no further part in our stay unless invited by us - great! The accommodation is spacious, though during our stay was hardly used - the weather meaning we were mostly outside on the terrace when not exploring the island. The conversion is 'unusual' with the bedroom on a mezzanine floor at one end, with the bathroom and toilet facilities being at the other end. This involved down stairs and up stairs to move from one area to another - NOT A PROBLEM, indeed quite fun! Situated a short walk outside Martis village it gave a complete feeling of isolation - paradise. The village meant there were all facilities available, bars, supermarkets and the best pizza we have ever had! The grounds associated with the property are extensive, and although we did not partake of the pool in the orchard, we did hold a birthday breakfast alfresco in the field next to the terrace - such things are memories made of. On an important level, we certainly felt that it was very worth the price paid. All admin involved with the rental went smoothly.
