Explora in the Sacred Valley of the Incas was designed as a headquarter from where to explore a remote and great destination: Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our lodge is within walking distance of the traditional village of Urquillos, a tiny settlement in which countless traditions are kept alive year-round by a lively and proud local community. The 50 rooms have views of the cornfields and mountains. They were covered in wood and have cozy touches in the decoration, which transform them into a unique place to disconnect and enjoy the destination. The gastronomic experience in Explora Sacred Valley of the Incas was developed exclusively by the renowned Peruvian chef Virgilio Martínez, owner of the world’s number one restaurant in the world, according to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 ranking. Our cuisine is inspired by the Andes and its diversity of products, ingredients and traditions. Through it, we want each of our travelers to deeply connect with the territory we inhabit and live a unique gastronomic experience in the Valley. Our Spa Pumacahua Bath House is a colonial house from the seventeenth century located on one side of the hotel’s corn terraces. Rescued by our restoration and archaeology team, it contains the hotel Spa where our guests can enjoy massages, the swimming pool, hot tubs and saunas. Please note that some of our rates include entrance to Machu Picchu (subject to availability), meals, drinks, transfers, accommodations, and daily explorations.

Positive: Everything! Amazing guides, staff. Cocktails are amazing and food is pretty good as well! We’ve rented the bikes and gone around town and also visited Machu Picchu for a day.

Positive: All the meals were great. Excellent breakfast. Very good rooms, beautiful views and very confortble.
Negative: There are very nice tours that we can do in Sagred valley. A lot of them are beautiful. The hotel guides are very nice but not all of them know exactly what are they doing. I felt sometimes that they could know better the way and how hard the tours are. One day they put us in a very hard tour, I would even say an expert level, it seems the guide that suggested it to us didn't understood me at all and made a bad evaluation of how hard the tour can be. I left an evaluation at the front desk imagining someone would contact me, for at least ask us an excuse for what happened to us, but by now, nobody did it. It's a shame because they seemed to care about the guests. Other point is that almost all of the tours are about 1 hour from the hotel but the guides try to make us feel better telling us all the local history during the trips.
Summary: It is a very nice hotel in general. The hotel proposal (all inclusive, with tours,...) is great.

Positive: The property is an architectural delight as are the rooms. The staff especially the guides and bar staff were exceptional both in service and character. The ethos of Explora is to explore and our hiking / car based trips certainly lived up to our expectations.
Negative: The food menu is created by an exalted Peruvian Chef yet the food, although at times excellent, a lot of the times disappointed/was too similar/rich. Perhaps our expectations set our benchmark to high. Another consideration is a service tip is ‘suggested’ on departure which I would have presumed been covered in the all inclusive cost: due to the excellent service we of course paid. Note: lunch is not included on your last day even though you could do a morning activity and leave at 3pm: I think a nice touch would be to include the bar menu for those staying later.
