Luxury self catering gites in beautiful, quiet rural surroundings of the Poitou-Charente. Our three gites date back to the 16th Century and were part of a former winery which have been sympathetically converted in 2018, providing spacious accommodation with modern facilities. Situated on the Loire/Vienne border close to Futuroscope, the Chateaux of the Loire Valley, Vineyards of Saumur and Chinon as well as historic towns such as Poitiers, Tours and Richelieu.
The gites have private terraces with seating and bbq which open onto large communal gardens with 10m x 5m in ground swimming pool. A separate building in the grounds, formerly the bread oven, now houses the games room with pool table, foosball table, darts etc.
The characterful stone cottages under clay tile roofs offer much historic interest such as flag stone floors, exposed oak beams, indoor well covered with safety glass, vaulted ceilings and lime washed walls.
The accommodation in La Maison de Puits comprises on the first floor a master bedroom with extra large bed (180cm x 200cm) and en suite shower room. There is also a bedroom with 3 single beds and sofa. On the ground floor there is a further bedroom with an extra large bed, kitchen/dining room with covered well, sitting room and a bathroom off the main stone staircase. Bed linen and towels are included with this rental.

Summary: Wife and I spent a week here with our 3 kids (aged 3, 7 & 9) in July. Property is spacious, very well appointed, very clean and the owners have done a fantastic job with the recent conversion. I'd agree with a previous reviewer that the photos don’t do it justice - it is a fantastic place to spend a holiday. The thick walls meant that the inside was always cool, even when temperatures hit high thirties outside, and the owners also provided fans so the lack of air-con wasn't a problem at night. The kids enjoyed the pool and also the very large garden and tree-swings. The owners were on-site and very helpful with local knowledge and suggestions for things to do. They helped organize a riding lesson for one of our daughters which pretty much made her holiday. The rural location means total peace and quiet - the trade-off is that you need to drive out to any places of interest, but there is plenty to do in the area within a 20-40 minute drive, which was fine for us. The acid test is that I would happily go back and I would recommend it to my friends.

Summary: Have just returned from a fabulous 10 days in Prinçay. Mark and Sam were amazing hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation is very spacious and well equipped. If you are after peace and quiet in a rural location this is the property for you.
