2 Bedroom Cottage in Matavera, Rarotonga

"Gardenia" is of 3 family friendly, generously sized cottages, perfect for 2 adults & 2 Kids. It's cool & airy thanks to fully screened louvre Windows & fans in all rooms.
There are 2 Bedrooms, one with a queen sized Bed, the other adjoining BR has 2 single beds
Next to the spacious living area with sofa and TV/DVD you find a kitchenette with 4 burner gas cooktop, fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, cooking equipment and all cutlery & crockery you need for your holiday.
There is a modern shower bathroom.
Outside you find your private Veranda with chairs and table to enjoy a meal + a covered gazebo, perfect for reading, having a chat or even star gazing.
We serve a delicious joined breakfast on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays incl. fresh tropical fruit, eggs from our own hens, home made jams and fresh breads. We cater for special dietary requirements such as vegan, vegetarian or gluten free. The breakfast is a great opportunity to meet and exchange stories, experiences and ideas how to create the perfect holiday experience in our little paradise.
On Mondays we supply local doughnuts for your breakfast, on Wednesdays fresh Pandesal bread and on Fridays warm & crunchy croissant's from the little bakery down the road.
Our farm is located in the back of the village Matavera on the east side of the island. Matavera is a rural village with working farms and only few tourists. The coral reef that surrounds the island, comes here almost all the way to the shore, so our beach is good for walking, watching hermit crabs and enjoying the ocean spray. Only 2km from the farm you find famous Muri beach with it's motus (small islands), and sandy shores. Muri is like a "mini town" with resorts, restaurants, cafes, entertainment, the famous night market. You can just walk there or use our bicycles. The public bus, that stops just 300m down the road, runs every hour.
For Saturday we recommend a visit to the islands Market in Main town Avarua. You will find a large variety of local food, home made goodies and cultural entertainment. Try the "Maroro Tunutunu", the grilled Flying fish. It's a local favorite!
You have access to the entire farm. Eat Bananas, Pawpaw and Passionfruit right from the trees, visit our friendly goats or have fun watching the chickens.
Exploring the island is easy by bus, or you rent a scooter or even a car. If you hold a motorbike license you can even rent a scooter from us.

Matavera is a farm village. There could be animal noise or sometimes an early tractor. The property is very safe. There are 3 cottages all together located on our large property, one 2BR cottage and two 1BR cottages, all with outdoor living areas and BBQ. Summary: We stayed here for over a week and couldn’t say enough about what wonderful hosts Joe and Odette are. We came with our pets (long story!), and although this hadn’t been transferred across in the booking information, they took it in their stride and welcomed us all in. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and with the screened louvre windows all opened up, it provided more than enough breeze flowing through to keep us cool. The communal breakfast was definitely a highlight, with great conversation from hosts and other guests, delicious fruits, nu, incredible crepe style pancakes with Odettes secret spice, and fresh scrambled eggs from their chickens. We wish we could visit for breakfast again! The roosters in the morning are a bit noisy but it adds to the charm and it is a functioning farm after all, and was exceptional value for money. I highly recommend staying here for a more authentic Rarotongan experience and with the most fantastically friendly hosts

Summary: Very hospitable hosts who provided local knowledge and assisted with transport arragements. Comfortable beds in well stocked bungalows. Quality linens. Tea, coffee and milk provided in bungalows and delicious home cooked breakfasts were served on homestead deck. Easy proximity to local bus and grocery store.

Summary: We had a wonderful time at Joe and Odettes farmstay. The cottage is sparkling clean with a well appointed kitchen , sitting room and a nice outdoor seating area. Summary: We stepped into paradise and tranquility on arrival and everything was catered for in the fresh clean and spacious new farmhouse. Delicious local produce and plenty of large towels and new bedding awaited us in the delightful 3 rooms with a comfortable veranda and adjoining table and chairs. Great cooking facilities with supermarket and bus stop very close. Host Joseph was so accommodating we couldn't have asked for more and we all were pleasantly surprised with everything about this property and friendly helpful host. He even encouraged us to help ourselves to the many fruits on his well-maintained large garden including the best mangoes I have ever tasted, juicy papayas, and massive avocados. Close enough to walk to the main road with a bus stop, supermarket, and beach across the road, yet this property was so quiet with a beautiful tropical rural vista. I have stayed at many different places in Rarotonga and will always stay here again. Nothing beats staying with a local for their friendly knowledge compared with being in a hotel room.

Summary: Awesome little self contained bungalow on a cute little farm block. Lots of chickens and roosters, cats and goats to keep you entertained and heaps of fruit trees that they let you happily raid. Joe was the most amazing host, super friendly and helpful and even dropped off drinking coconuts for us. Super close to Muri Beach about 5 min drive and 15min from town. We will definitely be back!!

Summary: My partner and I stayed here for just shy of two weeks. Joe and Odette go out of their way making you feel like part of their family and home. Could not ask for a better experience in a new place. The food and hospitality offered was parallel to none. The ability to have breakfast and conversation to start everyday was amazing in itself.
