Positive: It was a huge space with multiple rooms and a very welcoming host. It was like a home away from home. The house is beautifully renovated in traditional Japanese style and the delightful garden is part of the view. Close to the very popular Magome to Tsumago walk on the Nakasendo trail.

Negative: The stairs to the bedrooms would be difficult for some people. But plenty of rooms to choose from downstairs if guests needed to stay on one level.

Summary: Quiet village stay for travellers happy to go off the main routes.

Positive: This was a truly exceptional experience, the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful simplicity and ingenuity of a traditional Japanese home. The stay added to our whole experience of Japan. Assi was also a very friendly and amenable host.

Negative: Arriving as we did in cold weather, we also experienced the historic heat insulation standards.

Summary: This is an almost unique immersion into a traditional Japanese home, recommended!

Positive: Well... That was an amazing stay guys! Atsushi was so nice and welcoming, speaking great English, and he drove me to Magome - the beginning of the trail. The house is a beautiful traditional house, very minimalistic and pleasant. Everything was so beautiful and comfortable! One thing you need to mind though - the village is very small, and there's nothing to do in the evening. Even finding open restaurants for dinner after 7pm is quite impossible

Positive: We had the whole house for ourselves. Shigi is a traditional Japanese house. The owner gave us a lift to the supermarket, where we bought our dinner. The village is very small and there didn't seem to be any restaurant that suited us, so dinner at home was perfect.

Positive: The house is amazing, I was sad that I only spent one night there, it was a great experience to stay in a Japanese house, Assi was very friendly and welcoming, made me feel at home, helped me to get a restaurant as I arrived late, and gave suggestion for my breakfast next morning.I definitely recommend this place. Positive: Owner was very nice and made sure my stay was exceptional. He even made a reservation at a local restaurant for me because they were going to close soon and I hadn't had dinner yet. I would highly recommend staying here if you're hiking the nakasendo or just in the area.
