Positive: We stayed in the upstairs apartment. Everything was excellent. Bright, clean, big, nicely decorated, comforable furniture and a lovely private terrace downstairs. The house is in a very quiet location, surrounded by vineyards and nature. Only a 15 minute walk from the sea. Very kind and helpful owners. Upon arrival there were coffee pods, tea, biscuits, milk, water, toiletpaper and a few other things, which felt very welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend this venue.

Positive: Brief: This property consists of two apartments: a 2-bedroom (upstairs) and a 3-bedroom (downstairs, on the ground floor). The reviews you see here from previous guests can be for either apartment. The 2-bedroom provides a perfect experience (except for those with mobility issues who might find the stairs challenging). The 3-bedroom is unfortunately compromised due to noise relating to intrinsic issues with the building. We stayed in the 3-bedroom apartment for a week. Based on our stay and on others’ reviews, we would gladly return - but only to the 2-bedroom apartment. We would avoid the 3-bedroom one unless these issues are addressed. Pros Location (general): Bakio is a small seaside town which has its own humid microclimate. The property is situated where the edge of Bakio meets the countryside. It is only 30 minutes by car to central Bilbao, making it a perfect base for a holiday that can include multiple trips to the city but would also allow for relaxation in an unhurried, rural atmosphere. Bakio’s beach in mid-June was clean and sandy but not busy; it is famous for its surfing schools but the waves are not daunting for swimmers. The town is a two-hour hike away from the world-renowned San Gaztelugatze. Physically, the town itself, with its multi-storey blocks of flats lining the seafront, did not impress at first look. But it grows on you as you get to know it, with some good restaurants (our favourite was La Baskula) and plenty of life. Location (particular): The apartments are part of a larger farmhouse building situated in beautiful rural surroundings. The Donniene Gorrondona winery/vineyard (which provides tours) backs onto it to the west. To the east of it is the nature reserve that separates Bakio from San Gaztelugatze and the fishing town of Bermeo beyond. All around are sheep, a few safely restrained dogs, and even wild boar. And yet it is a mere 10 minutes’ walk into Bakio and a three-minute drive to a reasonably-sized Eroski supermarket.
Negative: Cons Noise: This aspect is painful to relate, as the apartments are so wonderful in all other respects and the hosts are so lovely. We are deeply envious of those guests who have written about how peaceful their stay was. They must have either stayed in the 2-bedroom apartment or, if they were in the 3-bedroom on the ground floor they were very lucky with who was staying above them. Noise from the joists and flooring in the upstairs apartment transmits easily into the one below. We experienced no other issues with noise (eg from plumbing or voices). But the sound of footsteps and creaking ceiling were hard for any of the six of us in the apartment below to bear. They meant disrupted sleep most nights. The movement above was occasionally enough to make the light fittings in the downstairs ceilings sway. The noise and swaying lighting improved when new guests arrived who were less active during the day but their movement throughout the night was still an issue, with creaking sounds coming from above throughout the night. Recommendations: earplugs if you can bear them; only stay in the 2-bedroom. Lack of doors for the third double bedroom: This room adjoins the sitting room/kitchen area. It has no door, only curtains. These afford some (but not much) privacy and little protection from light, meaning that (in summer) daylight lights the room brightly early each morning. Recommendation: hosts should install a proper door or, less optimally, replace the curtains with thicker ones with blackout lining; guests should bring eye masks in the meantime and go to bed and get up early! No locks on the two bathroom doors: the 3-bedroom apartment very conveniently has a bathroom with an excellent shower, WC and sink and a separate WC with sink. Neither of these has a lock on the door. Recommendations: hosts should replace the door handles with lockable ones; guests should in the meantime loudly declare their intention to use either bathroom.
Summary: Beautiful apartments in a perfect location - but the 3-bedroom apartment is noisy if the 2-bedroom is occupied

Positive: Beautiful apartment in gorgeous quiet setting. 15 mins walk into Bakio which has a few bars etc. but otherwise feels very rural. Cute donkeys in the field opposite. Wish the weather had been nicer so we could enjoy the pool and beautiful garden more! Parking very easy on site. Beds incredibly comfortable, lovely bathrooms with soft luxurious towels, kitchen well-equipped and with a range of coffee and tea options.
Negative: Very very minor- would have been great to have a recycling bin more clearly labelled.

Positive: We had an amazing time at this unique holiday home! The apartment is beautifully decorated with a lot of care and attention to detail. It has a very well-equipped kitchen, the beds are comfy, and the bathroom is modern and super clean. The garden is gorgeous, with lots of outdoor space and a big pool surrounded by lounge beds. It’s even better than the pictures! Our daughter and dog loved it, and it felt like a true home away from home. The location is perfect—just outside the village but an easy casual walk to the beach. We didn’t know Bakio before, but we loved its vibe. The surf school recommended by the host was a fantastic find and a highlight of our trip. The hosts were great and made sure everything was perfect for our stay. The small touches around the house made it feel really personal and welcoming. We almost didn’t want to leave :)

Positive: It was quiet, peaceful, gorgeous, and close to all Bakio and the coast had to offer. Also easy to get to and from Bilbao on the bus or taxi.
Negative: A few more items in the kitchen would be nice, like larger bowls and bigger cooking pot. Not a problem, just suggestion.
Summary: It was absolutely amazing and without a doubt a new favorite spot where we will return.

Negative: There was no door on the main bedroom, just a curtain. There was noise from upstairs until late, after midnight, I think the owners live there, you can hear everything so a poor sleep.
