Summary: Very impressed with the Onoma Tsuruga Resort. We stayed for two nights in November and loved the property. The room we had , with a private rotemburo was very nice. It was much larger than most rooms in Japan, had excellent facilities, and the private outdoor bath was the real winner. We also enjoyed dining at the hotel. The French multi-course dinner was excellent and while not cheap (we paid 16,000 Yen per person), it was well worth it. Service, presentation, and cooking were all very impressive. There is also an excellent wine list, with good options by the glass or bottle. The setting of the hotel is lovely, by the side of the marsh (konuma). It is very quiet and relaxing, surrounded by nature. The little resort town of onumakouen is nearby, with lots of little stores, cafes, and activities. This is a less well known spot in Hokkaido, compared with Niesko or Furano, but it's so beautiful. Having a car will really help out. Anyway, the hotel is highly recommended. We enjoyed the very nice touches, like freely available wine in the bar in the afternoon and evening. It's not cheap, but we felt we got excellent value for money and look forward to staying at the other Tsuruga properties in Hokkaido.

Summary: Wow what a lovely location and hotel. We had the room with private onsen. It was very spacious with separate entertainment room connected to the onsen, off the main bedroom area. The restaurant meals were delightful with 5 star service.

Summary: We came here for our honeymoon and had one of the most relaxing, comfortable stays of our trip. We were blown away by how nice this was They have a really interesting set up for their lobby lounge, with wood paneling and a flickering fireplace, it invokes the feel of a forest lodge. In the middle of the room is a beautifully done model train diorama that guests can start the trains with a push of a button. During the day, there are free drinks in the lobby and complimentary cocktails at night. The room we stayed in was connected to another room that had our own lounge with a drop down screen and projector as well as a private onsen that was just for our use. Our trip also included dinner and breakfast at their restaurant, which had a different set tasting menu of 8-10 small dishes every night and a breakfast in the morning. The dishes are fine dining - French inspired with a Japanese influence and are made from fresh, local ingredients from Hokkaido. The hotel is close to Onuma-koen station and is just a couple minutes walk away. It's pretty easy to take the JR Super Hokuto to go visit Hakodate and check out the city there and come back in the evening. Literally out the back door is Lake Onuma and a great view. However, the one downside is that the town itself has nothing for a tourist to see, the nearest combini is over 1km away. The staff is super friendly, polite, and attentive and provided excellent service on par with high end hotels in Tokyo.

Summary: This hotel was a renovation of a Western period themed hotel. The hotel is charming in its way--sort of the Japanese perception of English life in the early 1900s. Each room is named after an Herb or Berry. We had two rooms, one with an outdoor onsen, and one with and indoor onsen that was in a separate recreation "pool house". The rooms themselves were a bit small like many Japanese hotels are, but the room with the separate indoor onsen was actually huge with a projector TV, lounge area, and large shower and comfortable onsen. Service was very attentive although we only saw two gentlemen working 12 hours shifts at the front desk. The grounds were updated into a mini park, and the restaurant was modern, western, and farm based. Food was excellent as it usually is in Tsuruga properties. Free use of bikes, some electric-assisted, to ride around the nearby lake but the views around the lake from the bike path seemed very limited. Overall we had a nice time here, but its not a super luxe, glamorous ryokan if that's what you're looking for.
