Positive: You can walk to aizu bukeyashiki within 15mins from the hotel, which is great. The rooms are pretty unspectacular and I was disappointed to see no Kotatsu inside the rooms during our December stay. The private outdoor onsen my wife and I booked for an hour was way too hot to even get in and there was no way to adjust the temperature by adding in cold water. It was the hottest water we experienced during our whole trip to Japan and we simply couldn't get because it was so hot. The public onsen on the other hand is amazing. The outdoor area has many smaller pools that cascade their way through the outdoor area and this does not only look great but also all of the pools had different temperatures so we could enjoy them without any issues. As for the kaiseki - it was half kaiseki half buffet which we felt was a great middleground that worked very well. Food was amazing and I would highly recommend the dinner. One thing to mention is that they provided a free shuttle to the station on check out day and the driver went above and beyond to ensure we get the right train (or bus in our case) Still, compared to other similar hotels we've visited, it felt a bit overpriced and lacked the wow-factor.
Negative: bit pricy for what you get; location not too convenient.

Positive: My family and I absolutely loved our stay here. The room was spacious and comfortable, with a beautiful view. I imagine it would be even more stunning during autumn. The service was exceptional, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, both dinner and breakfast. They even prepared a special kids' meal for my son, which was so thoughtful. If we ever have the chance to visit this city again, we would definitely stay here
Negative: Nothing

Positive: The food was delicious and the open air bath was really great. We could also get massages for an additional charge. The staff were very efficient and polite.
Negative: The building itself is a bit old. There was even a cigarette vending machine!!
Summary: Good to relax in the open air bath beside the waterfall and have a delicious dinner.

Positive: This hotel has an absolutely spectacular location, perched on the side of a ravine. All the rooms seem to face outwards into this incredible space, so you really feel in close contact with nature. We were lucky to be there at the height of autumn leaf colour too. We had a lovely welcome from the staff when we arrived. They were exceptionally helpful re sending our larger bags onward by takkubin. The public onsen is stunning, with a wonderful outside onsen too, overhanging the waterfall and stream. We booked one of the private baths, which was fabulous, and I would highly recommend it. There are several different private onsen, so, with a bit of forward planning, you could try several different ones, even in short stay - for the more extreme onsen lovers perhaps! The restaurant was excellent. I am very glad we booked for dinner, which was a feast, and combined table service with an extensive buffet. Breakfast was delicious, buffet style. Everything about our stay was comfortable and things went very smoothly. We travelled to Aizuwakamatsu by train, and onwards to the hotel by taxi. We were only there one night, and would love to return.
Negative: There was very little that wasn't excellent about our stay. My one comment about the bath - there is a flight of stairs down to the outside public bath (both the men's and women's bath). If, like myself, you are onsen visiting to help with a mobility issue, you may want to think about this and perhaps stick to the indoor bath or open air private bath, or have your bath at a time when it is less busy e.g. late in the evening. However, there are solid handrails, and, with a little time, I managed the stairs.
Summary: A delightful onsen hotel in the heart of nature

Positive: The accommodation is pretty. I especially like how we are given private dining room for alternate meals. But the buffet spread was the same for the two nights i stayed. The onsen is nice, but the men side has a better view of the waterfall and they dont alternate the onsen for both genders. The onsen also attracts a lot of butterflies, moths, bees etc. If you are lucky, you can see giant white moth on the wall of the onsen. The location is a little far from the nearest bus stop but they offered free shuttle to the higashiyama and bukkeyashi bus stop. You can use the shuttle anytime you want by just calling the hotel reception. In the morning at 10am, there is also free shuttle to the station. Do check the schedule with them.
