Welcome to Hartwell House, nestled in the heart of the majestic Laurentians in Western Quebec. Located just an hour and 20 minutes from Canada’s capital city of Ottawa and one hour and 45 minutes from Montreal, this private, two-storey home awaits you and your family for a few nights, a week or a weekend get-away.

Curl up in a Muskoka chair and gaze up at the brilliant night sky, taking in countless stars as far as your eyes can see. Grab some binoculars on a breezy afternoon and see how many species of birds you can name. Grab your towel, head down our private staircase to the new cedar dock and take a refreshing dip in the lake. Pour yourself a drink, assemble a s’more and gather around the outdoor fire pit.

Drive 30 minutes north to reach the glorious, winding slopes of Mont Tremblant for a day of skiing, or journey 30 minutes south to meander the quaint boutiques of Montebello. Do you love animals? The award-winning Parc Omega is just 22 minutes away from our front door! Outdoor enthusiasts will also enjoy golfing, fishing, hunting, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, quad trails, snowmobiling and so much more!
What Else Is there to Know?
This 5 bedroom home sleeps nine and features custom-made, hand crafted wrought iron beds, each fitted with an organic mattress. Built in the 1946, Hartwell House also boasts original oak furniture that has remained with the home for 75 years, including the expansive antique dining table and chairs that will sit 10 for dinner. The house is professionally cleaned in between stays, has plenty of outdoor lighting, fire extinguishers, several smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors, a first-aid kit and an automatic home backup generator in the event of power loss. Internet, Bell cable tv and a high-quality wireless speaker are also included.
Whether you are relaxing with a glass of wine in the window seat or curled up with a quilt and a great book on the sofa, the two-sided gas fireplace will keep things cozy and warm throughout your stay. The kitchen is fully-equipped with all cooking and eating utensils, pots and pans, coffee/ tea, kettle, toaster, mini convection oven, full sized gas stove/ oven (also with convection function), microwave, dishwasher, fridge and basic pantry items. Outdoor towels, indoor bathroom and bedroom linens are also included.
Parking on the property will accommodate 2 vehicles. Road access is mainly highway, with flat, paved streets. Gas/ coffee shop/ groceries/ bank machine within a 5 minute drive.

Summary: My family and I spend a weekend au Hardwell House. Wow! What a great time. Walking, skating, almost completing a puzzles. Thank you Nicola and Tim, IT was a first experience for the 8 of us, my Sisters kids are aldults nos, what a great thing to wake Up and spend Time with Them. My big dog was allowed ans had a big bed.

Summary: We cannot recommend this property high enough. Wonderful and charming house. Right next to a beautiful lake. The house having canoes and a pedalo was a real bonus. Even the fishing was great. Easy access to Mont tramblant, ottawa and Montreal. Really wonder fantastic vacation.

Summary: We enjoyed our time here! There are 94 steps down to the dock but if you pack a bag of snacks in the morning you can spend the day lounging and swimming. It’s a bit weedy near the dock but nothing you can’t avoid when you’re swimming. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything you need and the BBQ was great; we used the BBQ for all of our dinners to keep the house cool. The fans in almost all of the rooms kept the bedrooms cool for sleeping and the beds were VERY comfortable. Overall, great stay but 94 steps to the dock! Totally worth the climb for a private, comfortable dock.

Summary: Wonderful property on a small private lake. House is very clean, rooms well appointed and kitchen well stocked. Visited the bazaar at the church next door. Hosts were very responsive and accommodating. Will come back.

Summary: Hartwell House was a perfect place for our family of five to spend quality time this winter. The house defintely has the charm and character of a house built in the '40s while at the same time being very welcoming with a homey feel. The kitchen and bathrooms have been modernized, the beds and bedding are comfortable and the house is well stocked with everything you can think of. Although it's a 35 minute drive to the ski slopes in one direction and to the quaint shops of Montebello in the other, it is well worth staying at Hartwell House for that comfortable homey feel after a day out. Nicola and Tim spare no detail to make your stay comfortable and they keep in touch making sure everything is going well.

Summary: Tim and Nicola's place was absolutely fantastic! It was the perfect winter getaway with beautiful amenities. The house is very big with all you could ask for. Gas fireplace, beautiful kitchen appliances and accessories, the works. Really enjoyed having bonfires and the accessories to roast marshmallows :) Nicola was absolutely excellent in communicating all needed details to us throughout our stay and we really felt they wanted to ensure we had a great time. Don't hesitate to book with them! We will definitely be planning our next visit. Thanks so much Tim and Nicola!
