THORNTON Estate, established in 1664, is a quintessential Eastern Shore estate. The magnificent manor house anchors the 325 acre preserved farm outside of Chestertown Maryland.
Lord Baltimore granted the original patent for Thornton from colonial lands he received from King Charles I of England in the early 17th century. Conveyed to Philip Hopkins in 1693 the estate is still owned by his direct descendants. The current manor house — built in 1815 — was fully renovated in 2008.

Summary: We celebrated Thanksgiving with our extended family and 91 yo mother. Living spaces were spacious to accommodate all. It is an old house so 3rd floor bedrooms were not meant for tall folk with sloping ceilings. Dining room table extended to seat 14 for all meals. Kitchen has every thing you could need plus plenty of space to have multiple cooks in the kitchen! We sampled some of the “estate” wine from the vineyard outside and walked the beautiful drive many times to work of our turkey dinner! Would absolutely stay here again The property is beautiful

Summary: Perfect property for our annual vacation with all the kids and grand kids! Loved the property and the secluded location - but still close enough to town. Beautiful, well-kept manor with everything you need. Loved the pool and the spacious grounds! Absolutely gorgeous!

Summary: We had the best vacation in this historical beautiful home. Everyone in our family had awesome time. House was very comfortable and clean. Loved the pool area. I only wish they had more shaded area by the pool. Property manager Mathew was very friendly and helpful in making sure that all our needs were met. Definitely recommend this home. Love to come back.

Summary: The Thornton Estate was above and beyond what my family was expecting. A historic home on an amazing piece of land. Dealing with the team that manages the house made the entire process a breeze. We would love to return in the future.

Summary: Our group had a great experience staying at Thornton. We had a large group in town for a wedding and it was the perfect place to spend time with friends. The house was gorgeous, the communication with the team was timely and efficient, and everything was clean and well-equipped. We’d definitely stay here again.

Summary: The property is so beautiful with lots of room to spread out both inside and out. The kitchen is well equipped. It was clean. The pool was lovely. And Matt, the property manager, was extremely nice and helpful. It’s perfect for groups and we will definitely be back!!

Summary: We loved this property! We visited with our large family (8 adults and 4 kids ages 3-6) for a long weekend and had a nice and relaxing stay. Very spacious inside, with lots of room to explore outside. Great kitchen, and tons of comfortable seating everywhere. We loved the pool too. Groceries and downtown Chestertown are just a short drive away. We would definitely recommend and return.
