Hiking and mountain bike tours with both easy and more difficult ascents can be started directly from the house: you could go around the Dhunntalsperre, through the Eifgental Valley, along the Jakobsweg or across Maria in der Aue to Altenberg. In just 5 walking minutes you reach the forest swimming baths or the Pfannkuchenhaus Coenenmühle. Summary: Perfect place to say to explore a beautiful part of Germany. Fantastic host, with near instant communication when needed before and during our stay. Good parking for a van. Host had fire lit for our arrival, so house was toasty. Great tour of house and explanation of everything. Look out for the 8.30am red squirrel visits! Thank you Martin

Summary: The house has a nice natural vibe with a beautiful garden. The sauna is nice and spacious, plus the kitchen has everything you need. The owner is super friendly. The house is perfect for group of friends or families of maximum six persons.

Summary: Our family of five (two adults, three children aged 5, 7 and 9) stayed in June 2023 for one week. The property is in a beautiful setting and there is a lovely view from the terrace where you are not overlooked, letting you enjoy the woodland view, birdsong and peace and quiet. Our children enjoyed the trampoline and hammock as well as generally roaming the garden and watching the tadpoles in the pond. We used the sauna which was well-equipped and had great indoor and outdoor relaxation areas as well as its own separate shower and toilet. The garden has many different places to sit and relax so that you can find the shade or sun whenever you want, and sun-umbrellas are provided. The stairs to the upstairs twin rooms are steep but were fine for our 5-year old; however you probaby would not want to have a toddler sleep up there. Martin is purchasing blinds for the skylights there. There is no washing-machine but Martin provided details of how we could get clothes washed locally during the week if we had wanted to. Martin was always available on the phone and was very helpful at all times. We would strongly recommend hiring a car to get around if you don't have your own car with you. We visited art galleries in Dusseldorf and Cologne, museums in Bonn, and visited the Atta Caves which were a longer drive away but were very impressive. Ate at the Pfannkuchenhaus nearby which was lovely, and also just spent time relaxing at the house. A lovely holiday for our family.

Summary: The house was great. It was quiet, private and spacious. Everything we needed was there and our girls loved the upstairs rooms. The sauna was such a great feature and simple to use. The village was beautiful and serene with lovely walking areas. Martin was gracious enough to meet us and walk us though the house. It was a wonderful stay overall!

Summary: Thank you Martin for our stay in your lovely holiday home. We had everything we needed except the weather ! The Sauna was a treat for us aswell as the pancake restaurant down the lane. We enjoyed the Chocolate Museum in Cologne and our teenagers loved Phantasialand theme park too. Martin speak excellent English and can answer anything you need. A great host.

Summary: This place is a hidden gem. The home is quaint, clean and very well kept. We loved the sauna and other amenities. Its within easy reach of Cologne including the Cathedral and Chocolate Museum. The kitchen was easy to use, the stove to take the chill out of the mornings, the bed was comfy. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. I would highly recommend this home for a family get away.

Summary: We chose this place for it's location close to Cologne and Dusseldorf. We needed a place to cook our own meals and it met our expectations. Kitchen is small but well equipped with quality cookware, an induction cooktop and large toaster oven which was useful for cooking potatoes/vegetables and warming up leftovers, etc. Bar-b-cue was also very nice. Coffee maker, tea kettle, utensils, supplies all met our needs,. There is a wood burning stove as well, which we enjoyed nightly. The local grocery store was 1.8 km away and had everything we needed. We spent alot of time in the dining room playing music on the small stereo which we discovered has "audio in", so with the right adapter you can play your own music from your iphone/ipad. There are two full bathrooms on the property, one in the main house and one in the sauna house, which made things easier considering we were three women. Both bathrooms are equipped with hairdryers and very clean and spacious. Towels were provided for a fee of 5 Euros per person, and Martin helped us when we needed to wash a load of clothes. We were happy to pay a small fee for this as well. The sauna, well it was excellent. Very clean. Essential oils provided. It is just lovely. There is a patio at the back of the house which we enjoyed on some sunny spring mornings. Nothing like sunshine and birds chirping away first thing in the morning. Our host Martin was very helpful and always responded via email, text or phone call. He was also very patient as we arrived later than expected due to flight delays. All in all, this place has everything you will need.

Summary: We stayed in Martin's cottage for two nights and it was the perfect place to take a breath, relax and unwind. A quaint cottage that has been tastefully renovated -with everything you'd need to relieve that stress. Comfy bed (we slept downstairs) cosy fire, perfect to come back to after a days wandern - Dhünntalsperre is closeby and well worth a walk-around. I'd recommend Martin's cottage for any time of the year.
