Positive: This place could be so wonderful. Great food, stunning gardens & views and a delightful pool and hot tub. However, the team are a huge part of what makes a hotel special and sadly this is where it’s let down. We read reviews about issues with staff before we booked but dismissed them as we thought they were written by guests who were perhaps rude to the team…we were wrong. With the exception of the waiters by the pool and a couple at breakfast we genuinely felt that we were putting them out. The reception team literally couldn’t be bothered and looked like they were put out when anyone approached. We had dinner 1 night and the waiters couldn’t wait to get rid of us. In the room it said it was open till 10 and bar till 11 but when they cleaned our plates (before 9.30) we were offered the bill and had to request the dessert menu and then at 9.45 they turned off the music and starting hoovering around us. The bar was also closed by this point. There was a big wedding on later in the week and it seemed like everyone was focused on getting ready for that with lots of loud construction taking place. The icing on the cake was after checking out we were approached and told that we needed to pay for a glass we had broken. We were told it was hotel policy but they could not find anywhere to show the policy. We paid it but it left a bitter taste as it was dealt with in the way that all the our interactions with reception occurred…dismissive.

Positive: The property was lovely. We especially enjoyed the gardens and all the interior decorations. The bar was so inviting with great service. We enjoyed hanging out there every evening before going in to dinner.

Negative: Our room didn’t have air conditioning which wasn’t a problem in March, but April through September that could be a problem. Also wish the buffet wasn’t the only option for breakfast

Summary: We totally enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this property

Positive: What a beautiful place; artwork throughout the interior and exterior halls, lush and endless gardens outside. Our meals here were excellent as was the service. The pools are great. Access by boat to explore lakeside villages made the location handy. And then the views of the lake and mountains are superb.

Positive: Hotel Atitlan is always an exceptional place to stay. We love the infinity pool for sunset, the outdoor cafe for breakfast and the grounds for leisure walks. The staff is always courteous and willing to assist.

Negative: Could use some feather/soft pillows.
