Summary: Love this property! Best hotel in the Old San Juan. Courteous staff, beautiful grounds, extremely clean and we loved the coffee / water bar on the 3rd floor with the terrace overlooking the city. They even upgraded us to a suite for no additional charge. We will be back!

Summary: Our stay at El Convento had a few hiccups. Check-in was delayed, and we had to follow up a couple of times before getting into our room. It didn’t feel like our situation was prioritized, but we were eventually accommodated. That said, the location is very convenient and perfect if you want to enjoy Old San Juan. The charm of the area and easy access to nearby attractions made the stay worthwhile.

Summary: When we booked, I was a bit concerned because reviews were either excellent or quite disappointing--with very little in between. It all depends on the room assigned! When we first arrived, we were ushered to a rather dark and very musty room on the first floor. It's an old historic hotel and I tried to be understanding when my request for a change was met with a promise for housekeeping to refresh. Once the windows were closed for overnight, however, the dankness returned and irritated my sinuses enough to require medication in the morning. I politely insisted that we be moved that day and was accommodated by Rachel once the checkout period was over. The new room on the top floor was sunny and fresh. No more sinus symptoms! Then, I was able to really enjoy the gorgeous historic property with charming courtyard, the lovely views, the PERFECT location with easy walking throughout Old San Juan to restaurants and attractions, daily coffee on the terrace, and the excellent bar. In addition, a relationship with a property on Isla Verde enabled us to have a lovely beach day with complimentary chairs, towels, etc. And Rachel and her colleagues (am forgetting his name) were gracious in checking in to make sure our stay was improved and all was well. I'd highly recommend.

Summary: Excellent location, walkable to all the things in old San Juan that you would want to see! Staff was helpful and kind. They had cold bottled water available at all times. Nice wine and cheese reception in the evening. Cool building with a lot of history.

Summary: Just lovely. Great location, helpful staff, comfortable rooms. Enjoyed brunch at the courtyard restaurant and wine on the terrace. Will stay again!

Summary: Just meh. There were way more things wrong than right with this hotel. Almost all the staff were rude with customer service absolutely not a priority, inuding the male server at breakfast who was visibly angry because people arrived. I saw several people give up and leave rather than continue to wait for an hour for food or attention from waitstaff. I specifically asked if there were any umbrellas for the pool area because there was only 1 being used by someone else. Although I was promised by 2 different people, including the front desk lady, that someone would come check and let me know, no one showed up and no one told me anything. So we were left to fry in the sun. One day, the cleaners left our room unlocked after cleaning. Who knows how many people went in while we were away. We won't be staying here again.

Summary: This is the perfect place to stay in Old San Juan. It is in the middle of everything, and is beautiful and comfortable in every way. We especially loved having coffee each morning outside on the terrace over-looking the park.
