Geographically, the property is impeccable. Within a brief 10-minute stroll, you can reach either Kyoto Shijo or the Kamo River, allowing you to switch effortlessly between indulgent shopping and a serene riverside walk. The neighborhood is dotted with high-quality restaurants and bistros that maintain a sophisticated, quiet charm—an ideal setting for solo travelers, couples, or close friends. Positive: Hotel Muso is overall a very nice option in Kyoto, especially for its location: it is close to all the main attractions and conveniences, yet pleasantly away from the busiest tourist crowds, which makes it a calm and comfortable base for exploring the city. The staff were very kind throughout our stay and always helpful when needed. We especially appreciated that, when there were issues with our original room, they upgraded us to one of the larger rooms for our last day, which was a very thoughtful gesture and made a big difference to our experience. The breakfast was also enjoyable, fresh, and nicely prepared each morning, and we appreciated having it included as part of the stay.

Negative: The smaller rooms, where we spent most of our stay, are not particularly well designed. The space distribution is not very practical, making the room feel less comfortable than it could be. Our toilet was also not functioning properly, and there were visible signs of wear, such as marks in the bathtub, which took away from the overall impression. It was also inconvenient that staff are not always present downstairs, and breakfast only starts from 8:45 am, which can be limiting if you want to start your day early. After 5 days, the breakfast selection also started to feel somewhat repetitive. Overall, we would stay here again, but only if booking one of the larger rooms, which offer a much better experience!
