Summary: We were spending 4 weeks over christmas in Villa Kandu. As a family with 2 small kids we had the time of our life. The place, country, people are just much more than what you normally expect. But the cherry on the cake was Upendra & Chandra, every little "problem" they solved, every advise you needed they provided and they treated us in the best way possible. Even after 4 months our two kids still talk about Sri Lanka :) I would suggest to go and discover this treasure

Summary: We were there 2-8 March 2016 and enjoyed our stay. Nice place. Pool and beach (safe swimming at nearby cove to the left) were a delight. Chandra and Upendra looked after us, both very pleasant and eager, but we checked their calculation for food and took over the shopping ourselves. Gave them clear orders for dinner and plenty of time off. Their English is somewhat limited and cleaning seems no high priority. We didn't take up any offers from people coming to the house to sell tours (overpriced). We were in House A, because we wanted 3 bedrooms. House B is better and classier. Kitchen and fridge in both houses for your own use. Busses to Galle and Hikkaduwa no problem.

Summary: We had the pleasure of staying at Villa Kandu for 12 nights in January 2016. We were two Families so we had the house with 4 bedrooms, house B I think. We were lucky enough to have the owners here at the same time which was lovely and we had some nice evenings on the Terrace having dinner, they had lots of great tips, Like who to go to for best massage , trips to go on and getting the Tuc Tuc do Beer trips (bring back the old bottles and get new ones) for a very small fee !!! . The location is Ideal, Its by a little fishing village ( Dodanduwa ) that has everything you need ( except Alcohol and ATM ) , but its only a short tuc tuc ( 2 or 3 K ) ride away from the busy Hikkaduwa with all the bars .The lads in the TucTucs around Villa Kandu were very reliable and friendly , one of them Bird is a good friend of the owners and staff . He let my two sons drive his tuctuc which was one of the holiday highlights. Its quiet and the locals are so friendly. We bought Fish straight from the fishermen in the village ( with Upendras help ) , and while we were there the kids watched the big water monitors under the bridge( another tip from the owners ). Chandra and Upendra the staff are brilliant, they made breakfast every morning and cooked some amazing meals we had a big BBQ one of the evenings too. They have worked for the owners for more than 20 yrs, so they are very very Reliable and trustworthy . The Views are just stunning(I will never forget the sunsets )and the sounds of the sea and crashing waves. The sea can be rough, so we were advised to swim just down a few meters away by the rocks, but we got in just in front of the house a few times when the waves weren't so big and it was fine. The villa Has a good WiFi . The garden is very private and has lovely shady areas . We really had a blast , can't recommend the villa enough. It really is a very special place.

Summary: We had a great five nights here, occupying both houses. We are a family of twelve, from four countries (Sri Lanka, Singapore, Australia, and USA). There was plenty of space for all of us, lots of beds, bathrooms, etc. Upendra & Chandra were very helpful, and we also got meals from the plentiful local food shops. We went to the wonderful sandy beach every day for surfing (far less crowded than Hikkaduwa), and the pool at the house was larger than we expected, long enough to swim laps. The place was fairly well-kept (many places in Sri Lanka are rather run-down).

Summary: We have had two absolutely fantastic weeks here in Kumarakanda and Villa Kandu. We had pretty high expectations but they were exceeded at all levels. Extra fun that we got to meet the hosts Hans and Gabi few days. They are incredibly hospitable and generous and could provide valuable tips. Then they have also forwarded connections to several nice people who could provide transportation, boat tours, massages, tours and more. Since then, we have the best of everything, Upendra and Chandra, which are fantastically warm and kind people. We have had the absolute best service imaginable. If you want sun, sand and relaxation hefty as the Villa Kandu right place. We really want to come back here. Pär Eriksson with family

Summary: The property is excellent. Big rooms and big spaces . The view from the terrace is amazing as there is a view along the beach and in the morning or afternoon is possible towatch the fishermen. Chandra and Upendra who are there to help in the house and with the cooing are really nice and trying to help al the time. Chandra is an amazing cooker and very nice person. There are some waves in front of the house but just a few meters on the left the seas is suitable to swim and even next to the house on theleft there is a little bay with a very nice beach . The beach is suitable for nice long walks or running. Next to the house there are several good restaurant right on the beach and around there are shops and many things to visit. Hikkaduwa is very close , it is possible to go by the beach although is a long walking or by tuk tuk in just a ten minutes. Swimming pool is nice and in general everything is perfect. While we were there we did not need to plug the aironditioning as we had enough with the fan and opeing the sliding windows as it is just in front of the sea and there is always a nice sea breeze. It is amazing listening the waves and the birds. We really loved it and sure we will come back next year. I highly recommend staying in Villa Kandu, excelent quality.

Summary: We spent 1 week at this amazing villa before our two week tour of Sri Lanka. We did not want to leave. Myself, my husband, our son and his girlfriend travelled here from Vancouver, Canada. Chandra and Upendra made us feel at home and prepared some wonderful meals, with fresh seafood and curries. We all loved Chandra's chopped salad with pineapple. Upendra made the best omelets. Walked on the beach every morning. Falling asleep to the sound of the ocean waves. Great place to chill out and rest. Our son proposed to his girlfriend on the upper deck of the villa Dec 19/13. Chandra and Upendra prepared a special BBQ and candlelit dinner for the occasion. The villa was exactly as advertised. Very clean and nicely decorated. Nice pool to cool off. We made the 30 min. walk into Hikkaduwa along the beach several times. The local Sri Lankan people were very friendly and always had a smile. Had dinner only one night in Hikkaduwa at the Roti Shop. Excellent food. Loved the banana, honey and chocolate roti. This restaurant was recommended by the drivers Ruwan and Damith who picked us up from the airport. They gave us a short local tour of the area around Hikkaduwa our first day. Checked out the moonstone mines, took us to the ATM and grocery store. Made us feel very welcome in their country. Hans Stoger the owner was very helpful and had his driver contact me via email. They were waiting for us when we arrived at 11:30pm. I would highly recommend this villa. The property is managed very efficiently. Chandra and Umpendra have worked together for years. Hans Stoger offers a professional customer service with easy payment on PayPal. I am planning to go back some day. Would like to spend a month. A real gem in a beautiful country.

Summary: A wonderful house where you continuosly hear the waves of the sea. The sleeping rooms: from your bed you step directly on the balcony on the first floor from where you have a beautiful view, the sea to see and hear. Lovely walks on the beach. You can enjoy the sea, and the swimming pool, don't go to far but you can stand and play in the high waves. Chandra and Upendra are very kind and helpful, Chandra cokes delicious meals.We do recommend in every way to make use of there services. It's nice to hear a little about their everyday life. And they do try everything to make you feel comfortable and at home. For us it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beach after travelling some weeks through Sri Lanka. A family with two teenage children from the Netherlands

Summary: We occupied house A for the entire month of July. This property is exactly as advertised. It is clean, well kept and safe. The pool is perfect for a cool off in the afternoons. The beach is wonderful and the neighbors who have started a little beach cafe are very friendly and generous. Travel to local sites is easy. There is not much to do in Hikkaduwa, but that suited us just fine. We hardly found any good reasons to leave Villa Kandu. The housekeepers Upendra and Chandra were wonderfully helpful and helped look after our children like they were their own. Chandra is a wonderful cook and her curries and vegetables are delicious. We found almost no reason to go into Hikkaduwa for the overpriced tourist food. If you just want some peace and quiet and a place to read, relax and rest, this is a great place to be. We were there in the low season so the beach was utterly deserted which made it all the nicer. The ocean can be rough this time of year, but with proper caution it is not a problem. The weather was also fantastic with only a few days of rain and storms. The balcony views and sofas were a wonder to spend the afternoons napping and reading. Suggestion: Add a toaster oven and a microwave to the kitchen.
