Negative: 60+ steps to get to the housekeepers apartment. Would have been better if the Dumb Waiter was working. Too hard to get cases up the stairs. Ended up leaving them at the bottom and just taking up what we needed
Summary: Lovely location, but would have liked to know in advance ( which I did ask but didn’t get a reply) how many steps as one

Positive: Very peaceful and beautiful views and pleasure to walk around some of grounds and church plus it met all our requirements as it was near our family Would stay here again. Yes, it was very relaxing place and a great experience to stay in a castle
Negative: The only downside was the stairs up to flat, but it did not bother us too much, but it was worth the climb as the views were excellent and very quiet

Positive: Beautiful location & grounds. It was lovely to watch the wildlife while having breakfast. Easy to drive to shops, local towns, and Edinburgh. Nice welcome basket(s) of essentials.
Negative: Nothing we didn't like. Clearer detail.aboit separating the rubbish would help. Hanging options on 2nd bedroom would be nice.

Positive: Very beautiful property with good view and good experience of staying in castle.
Negative: We had to climb 81 stairs as there was no lift and no mention of the same anywhere in the mail or website. So we could not take our luggage and had to take the clothes from the same for daily wear. Washroom was not very clean, pot was quite old with stains, access stairs were very bad, access to the house was troublesome as there were no proper instructions.

Positive: It was a beautiful location and the apartment was very well equiped, it is located in an area which allows you to explore many places of local interest, Rosslyn Chapel, Newhailes Estate etc and short drives to the coast and Edinburgh.
Negative: We were informed that there was a number of stairs to negotiate and to take as much of your luggage with you to avoid the stairs, what we didn't realise was that there is a total of 91 stairs to negotiate, it was tough for us ( a pair of reasonably fit 75 year olds) not for the faint hearted. Also the novel way of locking the bathroom door, an old "hook & eye" which to my mind could be a hazard if someone was to slip or taken unwell particularly with the door being outward opening ( resorted to using some folded toilet paper to wedge the door closed, some form of grab handle in the bath could also be a good safety addition.
Summary: It is an old castle and you have to keep this in mind but the surroundings are absolutely fantastic
