We are on the Varese shores of Lake Maggiore, in the town of Laveno-Mombello. The Hotel il Porticciolo is located in an absolutely privileged position, perched on the rock between the hill and the lake, and from every corner of the property you can enjoy the charm of a landscape that ranges from Verbania, with the Borromean Islands, to Monte Rosa, from the center of Laveno Mombello to Monte Sasso del Ferro, from whose summit the entire lake dominates. The spaces of Il Porticciolo are distributed over 4 floors: at the highest point, the most panoramic, there is the indoor swimming pool and the SPA, recently renovated (2021); on the second and third floors there are 11 rooms and junior suites, all with a private balcony overlooking the lake; the lower level is intended for the two restaurants - La Tavola, 1 Michelin Star and l'Osteria -, the breakfast room and the cantilevered outdoor terrace, with a pier for mooring boats. The 11 deluxe rooms and junior suites – from 25 to 55 m2 – are among the most spacious in the area. The philosophy has always been to recreate a homely, warm and welcoming atmosphere, without ever diverting attention from the lake which moves slowly and placidly beyond the large windows. The large arched windows perfectly frame the colors of a landscape that changes from the blue of the water, to the green of the mountains, up to the peaks of Monte Rosa. Crossing the threshold of the private terraces, present in each room, the sounds and scents of these places complete our idea of ​​hospitality. Wi-fi and satellite television are available in all rooms.

Positive: The staff was super friendly and tried to accommodate all our requests. The room was good, with all necessary amnesties.
Negative: I did not like the spa experience, which looked like an abandoned facility. The pool was not fully working, missing the massage function, and there was no atmosphere. There was no ambiental music or water and fruits available. Overall the SPA is oversold, would nkt recommend it.
Summary: The lake side rooms are nice and comfy but the spa is not this hotel's forte. Great staff!

Positive: Wonderful view from balcony right over the water. Snow capped mountains in the distance and beautiful lake view. It's a 12 minute walk from the train station which is right next to the ferry dock. Easy to take the ferry to the Borromeo Islands. The indoor heated pool was spectacular. With great views of the lake. The water temperature was 84°F and very pleasant.
Negative: The 12 minute walk from the train station is a little challenging. It's a curvy road without much sidewalk, so keep alert as cars pass by.

Positive: WHAT A GREAT PLACE - Family owned hotel & spa, on the lake. Human size. Sympathatic team. Restaurant is excellent and the wine card is just crazy ! The spa is brand new, nice swimming pool, with sauna, turkish bath, showers, transat with view on the lake. Nice room all with view on the lake and montain. Nice parking even for big car... WE DO RECOMMAND THAT PLACE !
