Fair Winds is a charming beach house completed in the spring of 2012 and located in the Piney Island section of the old fishing town of Chincoteague Island, Virginia. It is a quick bike ride to the bridge to Assateague with boat ramp water access just down the street. Assateague Island is a national wildlife refuge run by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The pristine beach (4.0 miles from the house) is managed by the US Park Service. Fair Winds has three bedrooms plus a den (the "loft room") and two full baths. The upstairs master has a king-sized bed; a queen is in the front bedroom downstairs, twins are in the downstairs “turtle room” and the upstairs loft room. The loft room is ok for a couple of kids. It is open to the great room below, but there are doors that can close it off I’mfor sleeping. The heart of Fair Winds is the sunny great room with wood-burning fireplace. It includes living and dining areas as well as the kitchen with island and barstools. Kitchen amenities include electric range with glass cooktop, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, and an excellent supply of cookware and utensils. On the street side is a partially covered deck, and in the back, a screened porch overlooks the woods. In the hall of the main floor, there is a laundry closet with full sized washer and dryer. There is a TV and a DVD player in the loft room. The house has a land line for local calls as well as wireless internet access. Below the house is the carport, shed, an outdoor shower for removing the worst of the sand from the beach, and a clothes line. You will also find a small charcoal burning Weber grill. Please bring sheets and towels (don't forget beach towels!), because I do not provide linen service. Please, no smoking and no pets. Fair Winds will be cleaned and ready for your stay. Summary: Where do I begin? If we could give "Fair Winds" more than 5 stars we would. The home is beautiful, private, clean and well equipped. It is not "worn out" like so many beach rentals these days. The Assateague beach is pristine, and just up the road. Wildlife abounds. Chincoteague Island is a terrific, quaint, fun beach community with plenty to do and many beautiful views and our weather was just perfect. We will definately be coming back again.

Summary: We had a wonderful time staying at Barbara's home. This was by far the most comfortable and clean home we've ever rented. The home was spotless, had everything you could need for a week away. We really loved the screened in porch, which felt like you were sitting in a tree house amongst the pines. Decorated simply and tastefully, with a very well stocked kitchen. The house is conveniently located on the island near the road to Assateague beach.. We also appreciated the word doc with all the info on where to go (island creamery is a must!). We had never been to Chincoteague and the people were so nice. The Wednesday and Saturday morning outdoor market was great to pick up local produce, seafood and creations from local artisans. Thank you Barbara for sharing your place!

Summary: The owner has made every effort to make the house comfortable and appealing. Directions for appliances and other such things are clearly presented. The kitchen is nicely furnished with everything you might need and all utensils are good quality (ie, not a thrift store hodge podge). Decor is peaceful, not cluttered, and the furniture is in great condition. I loved the decorating colors, and we were charmed by the vase of fresh flowers on the dining room table. This home is absolutely worth the money!

Summary: This is the second time we have visited this property This property is really stocked. It has everything you need from cleaning, paper products , laundry products and bath needs. It is clean and very welcoming. I love the humming birds that are always visiting the front porch.

Summary: Absolutely a great experience staying at Fair Winds. It’s very easy to get to the beach, and close to shops and restaurants; yet we still enjoyed the serenity of morning birds singing and being close to the water. The house itself is beautiful, and has the most well stocked kitchen I’ve ever seen in a vacation home. The host is so gracious. We truly felt being home away from home!
