Summary: We really enjoyed our stay in Val’s chalet type house. The location was ideal - walking distance from town (altho be warned its steep back up the hill!) and the house had everything we needed and plenty of room. Val was v hospitable and had a little chat each day with us. Thank you Val

Summary: Val’s house is very comfortable and well equipped. It gets warm in the afternoon but catches lots of sea breeze. Communication was easy. Val lives across the road and was very friendly and checked in on us to have sure we had everything we needed. It was a great stay.We were mainly in Kaiteriteri as a base for day hikes in the park which worked well. One day we walked in from Marahau (a 15 min drive) to Apple Tree, which was just ok. The walks and beaches are nicer further in—so it is as better to get a water taxi to Bark Bay (or Tonga Quarry) and hike to Awaroa to get picked up. Although the taxis are expensive, those were nicer hikes and beaches. Be aware of winds in the afternoon can make a choppy return trip. Our only issue with the house location was the walk down to the beach is kind of a steep haul and involves a stretch walking on a narrow and winding road with no shoulder. There is some traffic in summer, so I would not be comfortable with kids doing it alone and would not want to do it myself after dark. Just something to be aware of if you plan on mainly using the Kaiteriteri beaches.

Summary: Val's beach chalet is the perfect place to stay in Kaiteriteri. It's close to all the Abel Tasman activities (the epic hikes, kayaking, fishing, and a few beautiful beaches are just down the hill (the route down to the beach is a bit tricky the first time). The house offers super views of the bay and surrounding area, a quiet wilderness setting and tranquility. Kitchen has all the equipment you need to make full meals. Best to do big grocery shopping in Nelson or Richmond, but there's a small store down the hill in Kaiteriteri. Val is an amazing host. Getting to know her and her daughter were a highlight of our trip.

Summary: We had a lovely time at Val's. The trail down to town can be a tad confusing, so make sure you leave yourself time to figure it out. The views from upstairs are stunning. We wished we could have stayed for longer.
