Positive: Incredibly unique, so cozy, such a hospitable place. Great meals and a very rejuvenating onsen. Truly unforgettable.

Negative: I am not used to tatami sleeping but it is something you grow used to.

Summary: Kanoe is an incredibly warm and welcoming lodge that provides a uniquely authentic stay.

Positive: Food at diner and breakfast was very good. Staff is very nice though communication in English is limited.

Negative: Room was very cold at arrival and aircon then struggled to warm it up.

Positive: The breakfast and dinner provided were amazing! The hospitality and recommendations for skiing provided were also amazing.

Negative: The location is tough to reach especially if it’s snowing. That being said I believe they have a staff member who can take people up/down the mountain to the hotel depending on the time of the day (best to plan this ahead of time, otherwise you may not be left with a ride back to the hotel after skiing).

Summary: Phenomenal stay, just needs planning.

Positive: Went during autumn 🍂 season on a cycling trip from Karuizawa to Iiyama. Superb location , awesome and accommodating staff, great vegan food and very clean. Love the place and would like to visit again during the ski 🎿 season!
