Positive: Executive lounge great, amazing staff. Breakfast was good. Overall revamp of hotel is wonderful. We have stayed here many times, first time was 2012. We are Canadian, not Chinese.
Negative: Non smoking floor, but another room was smoking. Could smell some smoke. Pool changing rooms need upgrade.
Summary: We are CDN. Great revamp of hotel, would stay again. Still a bit smoky.

Negative: Very few staff members speaks english. Even at the reception desk. One day I asked at the reception if there is a SPA/massage service in the hotel and the lady told no + she was checking on phone where I can get one. Apparently there is a SPA and swimming pool in the hotel at the 4th floor. I noticed that only on departure day. Every time I was asking something in the reception the guys from the reception was calling their colleague from concierge who speaks better english. Also very big problem with local guests who are smoking cigaretes in the lobby and toilets. I did not see any 'no smoking' signs inside the toilets and presume that it is one of the reason why local guests are smoking inside. It was impossible to use the toilet which was full of smoke and it happened twice in 4 days. Absolutely unacceptable. During breakfast big variety of chinese food. Western breakfast was ok, but not so many choises as chinese. Plain yogurt in a big bowl was sweet. Next to it was another super sweet yogurt in a bowl. Breakfast area around 10:00am gets very crowded. Few times I was waiting for a table for 10 minutes. Rooms are good, European standard. Lots of towels and toiletries like in any other Kempinski.

Positive: Excellent customer service from all the staff and they were really friendly, helpful and professional. It is also not far from the main shopping areas.
Negative: We asked for an adjoining room and when we got there we where told our room category does not have this facility, and they could have told us this when we asked during booking. There was no room service during our stay which was very inconvenient. When we booked the room we had the option to cancel but they charged our card 2 days before cancellation date. It is also not a child friendly hotel. There was a nice tub which our daughter enjoyed but no shower gel close by and we had to take from the shower.
Summary: Good for couples only.

Positive: I recently stayed at the Kempinski Hotel in Chengdu and had a really pleasant experience. Eileen and the other English-speaking staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, which made things so much easier for me as I’m from Australia and don’t speak any Chinese. They were always happy to assist and made me feel very welcome throughout my stay. The hotel was also very clean, neat, and had a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. One thing I did notice was that Didi drivers don’t always come right into the hotel driveway, which can be a bit tricky if you're not familiar with the area or the language. It would be great if the hotel could help facilitate that a bit more for guests. Also, if the toilets had bidets, that would be a big bonus. Overall though, I had a great stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to other international travellers.

Positive: Staff, in particular Eileen, were very helpful and remedied an issue without any hassle. The room was comfortable and the breakfast exceptional. It was my birthday during my stay and Eileen must have realised this when I checked in and surprised me with a cake when I returned that evening. A very lovely and thoughtful gesture.
Negative: The rooms are not conducive for friends sharing as the vanity is open plan and the toilet and shower screened only by a frosted glass door, not sealed for privacy. if the light would be turned on at night it would illuminate the whole room. We immediately had to book a second room which was an unexpected expense. Eileen was very helpful to secure this room and upgraded me to a larger room. This second room however smelled of the precious occupant smoking in the non smoking room and after alerting the reception I was moved again without any issue.
Summary: Very comfortable room, exceptional breakfast with great customer service

Positive: The Executive Floor team were a pleasure to deal with; professional, friendly, helpful. The hotel doormen were always professional and most helpful. They went out of their way to be of assistance. The breakfast menu was outstanding, and staff helpful.
